Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center Expansion Reaches Major Construction Milestone in Georgetown
Williamson County families are one step closer to seeing a major expansion of juvenile justice services take shape in Georgetown, where county leaders, project partners and community stakeholders marked a key construction milestone on July 10.
A Topping Out Ceremony recognized the completion of the highest structural point of the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center Expansion project at 200 WilCo Way. The milestone signals visible progress on a facility designed to provide more space, improved safety and additional support for young people and families as the county continues to grow.
The estimated $90 million project is expected to help Williamson County respond to increasingly complex juvenile cases while preparing for service demands projected over the next 25 to 30 years.
New Beds, Courtroom and Youth Services Planned
The Juvenile Justice Center expansion will add 48 beds, a regional courtroom focused on family services, new learning and exercise areas, a dedicated control room and a larger intake and release area.
Existing portions of the facility will also be reorganized to create additional space for visitation, counseling, administrative work and other services connected to the juvenile justice process.
For families navigating difficult circumstances, those changes could mean more room for private conversations, improved access to court services and a facility better equipped to support rehabilitation rather than focusing only on punishment.
“We are all getting very excited to see the completion of the first phase of this addition coming together, and we are anticipating early 2027 for a ribbon cutting,” Williamson County Juvenile Services Executive Director Scott Matthew said. “I would like to thank our Commissioners and Juvenile Board of judges for making this addition and renovation a reality and investing in Williamson County’s youth and families. Finally, I would like to thank SpawGlass and their sub-contractors, BLGY Architects and especially our county facilities team for their excellent collaboration.”
Expansion Responds to Williamson County Growth
Williamson County has experienced rapid population growth, bringing increased demand for courts, public safety services and programs that support children and families.
County officials said the Juvenile Services Department is also handling more serious offenses and increasingly complex cases. The expanded Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center is intended to provide the space, security and specialized services needed to manage that changing caseload.
The project reflects the county’s stated approach of treating the individual rather than only the offense, with an emphasis on services and interventions intended to reduce repeat involvement in the justice system.
“The expansion of the Juvenile Justice Center will allow for much needed space and facility improvements as the county grows in population and the demand for these services increases. The new space will add state-of-the-art safety features to keep the youth and correctional officers safe,” County Judge Steve Snell said. “In addition, the renovations include an additional courtroom which will also provide much-needed space for our judges across the county as caseloads continue to increase.”
The additional courtroom is expected to help relieve pressure on judges and courtrooms throughout Williamson County while providing a dedicated setting for family-related services.
Safety and Rehabilitation Shape the Project
The expanded center is being designed to improve safety for detained youth, correctional officers, court personnel and visitors. New control systems, redesigned intake and release areas and updated facility layouts are among the improvements intended to support safer daily operations.
At the same time, the addition of learning, counseling, visitation and exercise areas reflects a broader effort to give young people structured opportunities to continue their education, maintain family connections and receive support while in county care.

Project Team and Construction Timeline
Treanor HL was selected as the project engineer, BLGY Architects is serving as the architect and SpawGlass is the contractor for the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center Expansion.
The topping out ceremony marked completion of the structure’s highest point, but interior construction, renovations, safety systems and other work remain before the facility is ready to open.
County officials are anticipating a ribbon-cutting ceremony in early 2027 for the first phase of the addition.
For Williamson County residents, the project represents more than a larger building. It is a long-term investment in public safety, court capacity, youth rehabilitation and the support systems available to local families during some of their most challenging moments.
