White Oak Bayou Pedestrian Bridge Project Nears Completion in Jersey Village

February 09 2026

The White Oak Bayou Pedestrian Bridge project in Jersey Village has reached a key construction milestone, though work remains before the bridge can reopen to the public. The project, located along Equador Street in Harris County, is part of an ongoing effort by the City to replace the existing wooden pedestrian bridge with a steel structure intended to improve durability and accessibility.

Jersey Village City Council awarded the construction contract in March 2025, and bridge manufacturing began earlier that year. The project involves renovation and alteration of the existing crossing, including sidewalk additions and improvements. The total project area measures approximately 2,720 square feet, with an estimated cost of $1,045,264. Public funds are being used for the project, which was designed by PEA Group and has completed the review phase.

Public access to the bridge was initially closed on December 2, 2025, with reopening anticipated for January 16, 2026. In late December, the City announced a delay due to materials not arriving until early January. As a result, the reopening date was pushed back, and residents were asked to continue using alternate routes while construction activities continued.

On January 31, 2026, the new steel White Oak Bayou Pedestrian Bridge was installed using a crane. While the bridge structure is now in place, additional work is still required before it can be safely opened. Remaining tasks include concrete work, installation of lighting, and lime and fly ash stabilization. The City has stated that updated timelines for limited public use and final completion will be announced once confirmed with contractors.

The bridge is situated within the White Oak Bayou watershed, which extends across central to northwest Harris County and includes Jersey Village as well as portions of the City of Houston. The watershed covers 111 square miles and serves a population of approximately 464,933 residents based on 2020 Census data. White Oak Bayou is supported by 146 miles of open waterways and tributaries, including Little White Oak Bayou, Brickhouse Gully, Cole Creek, and Vogel Creek. Development within the watershed has increased over time, placing ongoing demands on infrastructure throughout the area.

City officials have asked residents to remain patient as construction continues and to follow posted detours until the bridge is reopened. Community members seeking additional information about the White Oak Bayou Pedestrian Bridge project may contact Jersey Village City Hall at 713-466-2100
