West Memorial Residents Encouraged to Use Harris County Precinct 5 Vacation Watch Service for Christmas Travel
With Christmas just around the corner and many West Memorial families preparing for holiday travel, the Harris County Constable Precinct 5 Office is once again offering a free resource to help keep homes safe while residents are away: the Vacation Watch program.
This community service allows Precinct 5 deputies to keep a watchful eye on your home throughout your time away. Deputies will perform routine, drive-by property checks during their neighborhood patrols, keeping an eye out for broken windows, open doors, or anything out of the ordinary. If a concern arises, they’ll notify you or your designated emergency contact right away.
How to Sign Up
Getting started is quick and easy. West Memorial residents can visit constablepct5.com/vacation-watch.
The form takes just a few minutes to complete. You’ll need to provide:
- Your home address
- Emergency contact information
- Departure and return dates
- Any additional notes (such as lights on timers or a friend checking in)
It’s recommended that residents complete the registration at least 48 hours before leaving to ensure the home is added to the patrol list in time.

Holiday Crime Rates Rise — Here’s Why Protection Matters
According to data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program and the National Crime Victimization Survey, property crimes—including home burglaries and theft—often increase during the holiday season, especially in December. Factors contributing to this seasonal spike include:
- Homes left empty while families travel
- Packages piling up on porches
- Shorter daylight hours providing cover for break-ins
That makes services like the Vacation Watch especially valuable for neighborhoods like West Memorial, offering a preventive layer of protection that’s coordinated directly with local law enforcement.
Community-Focused Crime Prevention
The Vacation Watch program not only offers peace of mind for traveling homeowners, it also allows deputies to focus patrol efforts on vulnerable properties. It’s one more way Harris County Precinct 5 supports community safety during the busiest—and often most stressful—time of the year.
Residents are also encouraged to combine Vacation Watch with other home security practices like:
- Setting indoor and outdoor lights on timers
- Having a neighbor pick up mail and packages
- Avoiding posting travel plans on social media until after returning home
As the West Memorial community prepares to celebrate, taking a few minutes to enroll in this free service can make all the difference. Enjoy the holidays with less worry—and know that while you’re away, Precinct 5 deputies are helping keep watch.
