Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux Opens June 8 in Towne Lake, Bringing Louisiana Flavor and a New Gathering Place to Cypress
For Cypress residents who have watched the former Sam’s Boat location sit quiet while crews worked behind the scenes, the wait is nearly over.
Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux will officially open its doors Monday, June 8, at Boardwalk at Towne Lake, marking the arrival of one of the nation's fastest-growing sports restaurant brands to one of Cypress' most recognizable waterfront destinations.
The opening represents more than just a new place to grab dinner or watch a game. For families, sports fans, and Towne Lake residents, it adds another gathering place along the Boardwalk—a destination that continues to evolve into a hub for dining, entertainment, and community connection in the heart of Cypress.
Community Excitement Builds Ahead of Opening Day
In the days leading up to the grand opening, Walk-On’s invited Cypress residents to participate in its "Training Camp," a series of reservation-only practice dining sessions designed to help team members prepare for opening day.
The response was immediate.
Restaurant officials recently announced that all Training Camp reservations had been fully booked, thanking Cypress residents for their enthusiastic support. The limited-capacity events offered invited guests a complimentary preview of the restaurant while helping staff fine-tune service and operations before welcoming the broader community.
The quick sellout reflects the anticipation that has been building since Walk-On’s first announced plans to take over the former Sam’s Boat location at 9955 Barker Cypress Rd #100, Cypress, TX 77433.
A Major Transformation Along the Boardwalk
When Walk-On’s revealed its plans for Towne Lake last year, the company committed to a $1.5 million renovation of the waterfront property.
The redevelopment transformed a space that had long been familiar to local residents into a modern sports-themed dining destination designed around the brand's signature combination of Louisiana-inspired cuisine, family-friendly hospitality, and a game-day atmosphere.
Situated along the waterfront at Boardwalk at Towne Lake, the restaurant offers guests views of the lake while remaining close to nearby shopping, entertainment, and community events that have made the development a regional destination.
For many residents, the opening signals another milestone in the continued growth of Cypress as new businesses invest in the community and expand local dining and entertainment options.
From LSU Dream to National Brand
Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux traces its roots back to Louisiana State University.
The concept was founded by Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, two LSU basketball walk-ons who turned a shared dream into a restaurant business after experiencing sports culture and hospitality during their travels with the team.
Their first location opened near Tiger Stadium in 2003, built around the idea that everyone deserves a seat at the table—whether they are star athletes or walk-ons.
The restaurant steadily expanded throughout the South, eventually earning national attention and being named ESPN's No. 1 Sports Bar in America in 2012. The brand gained additional momentum in 2015 when NFL quarterback Drew Brees joined as a co-owner and franchise partner.
Today, Walk-On’s has more than 100 locations open or in development across the country and has established a growing presence throughout the Greater Houston region, including locations in Katy, Spring, Pearland, Baytown, and The Woodlands.
What Cypress Diners Can Expect
Walk-On’s has built its reputation around a from-scratch kitchen that blends Louisiana-inspired flavors with classic sports-bar favorites.
Menu highlights include Cajun specialties such as crawfish étouffée, gumbo, red beans and rice, shrimp and grits, crawfish pasta, and seafood po'boys. Guests will also find burgers, tacos, wraps, salads, sandwiches, steaks, seafood platters, appetizers, desserts, and a variety of beverages.
The restaurant is equally known for its family-friendly environment, making it a popular destination for youth sports celebrations, family dinners, and watching major sporting events.
Wall-to-wall televisions, spacious seating, and a lively atmosphere have helped distinguish the brand in communities across the South.
More Than Food and Sports
One of the reasons Walk-On’s has resonated with communities is its emphasis on giving back.
The company launched the Game On Foundation to support youth athletics through facility improvements, equipment donations, and investments in underserved sports programs.
That commitment aligns well with a community like Cypress, where youth sports, school activities, and local organizations play a significant role in bringing neighbors together.
As the restaurant opens its doors, many residents are likely to see it as more than another dining option. It becomes another place where teams celebrate victories, families gather after busy weeks, and neighbors connect over shared experiences.
What Happens Next
With Training Camp reservations now fully booked and final preparations underway, all eyes turn to Monday, June 8, when Walk-On’s officially welcomes its first guests.
The opening adds another chapter to the continued growth of Boardwalk at Towne Lake and provides Cypress residents with a new waterfront destination just in time for summer.
Whether visitors stop by for Louisiana-inspired comfort food, a championship game, a family meal, or a lakeside evening with friends, Walk-On’s is poised to become a familiar part of the local dining scene.
As Cypress continues to grow, the arrival of new businesses like Walk-On’s reflects the confidence companies have in the community and the demand for places where residents can gather, connect, and create memories close to home.
