Unleash Your Child's Creativity This Summer at the Fort Bend Art Center's Exciting Art Camps

May 29 2024

As we usher in the summer season, the Fort Bend Art Center is preparing to once again host its popular summer art camps for kids. Located in the heart of historic downtown Rosenberg, the center has become a staple in the community, fostering creativity and inspiring the next generation of young artists.

The Art League of Fort Bend, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was established in 1957, manages the center. With decades of history rooted in supporting the arts in the Fort Bend County community, the league is committed to encouraging artistic development and nurturing an appreciation for the arts through education, exhibitions, and community outreach.

The summer camp sessions, taking place in June and July, are designed for kids ages 9-12. Each camp day focuses on a different art medium, offering children the chance to explore and work with the guidance of experienced artists who specialize in that medium.

Session I runs from 9 AM to 12 PM, kicking off with mask making on the 17th of June, followed by charcoal drawing, textile art, clay sculpture, and pastel drawing. Session II continues this creative pattern in July, featuring painting, junk journaling/origami, electric pen doodling, collage making, and beading. Each 5-day session is priced at $250 per participant.

However, the scope of the Art League of Fort Bend extends beyond these summer camps. The center is a vibrant hub for art, showcasing every form of visual art in its Mayde W. Butler Gallery. From paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography, to digital art, jewelry, ceramics, and kiln fired glass—each piece beautifully represents the talents, skill and passion of regional artists.

Additionally, the center also offers antique items for sale and houses a unique gift shop brimming with budget-friendly selections created by its members. Additional offerings include monthly online demos, artist-led classes, and various community events as part of Rosenberg’s Main Street Program. The center even supports music arts and word crafters, offering a studio for guitar lessons and a forum for local writers.
