UNIQLO Austin Opening Delayed to 2027 at Barton Creek Square
Austin’s first UNIQLO store is still coming to Barton Creek Square, but it now appears the opening will happen later than originally expected.
An updated filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists April 30, 2027 as the new construction completion date for the store planned at 2901 S. Capital of Texas Highway. Earlier plans pointed to a 2026 arrival.
UNIQLO has also updated its own information for the Austin location to say the store is now expected to open in 2027. The company has not announced a specific grand-opening date.
For local shoppers who have been watching the project since it was first announced, the update means the wait will stretch into next year.
Construction Timeline Moves Into 2027
The future UNIQLO store is planned for a nearly 18,000-square-foot space inside Barton Creek Square.
According to the state filing, the project carries an estimated construction cost of about $2.4 million and includes a substantial interior buildout, with new walls, finishes, fixtures, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work, along with a new storefront.
The updated completion date does not necessarily mean the store will open on April 30. Retailers typically need additional time after construction for inspections, merchandise setup, employee training and final preparations.
For now, the filing gives shoppers the clearest indication yet that UNIQLO’s Austin debut has moved into 2027.
What UNIQLO Will Bring to Austin
The Barton Creek Square store will be UNIQLO’s first location in Austin.
The Japanese retailer is known for its LifeWear clothing line, which focuses on simple, functional everyday pieces rather than trend-driven fashion.
Popular collections include AIRism, designed for lightweight comfort in warm weather, and HEATTECH, made for cold-weather layering. The company also sells denim, T-shirts, knitwear, trousers, outerwear and other basics for men, women and children.
That mix has helped UNIQLO build a loyal following, particularly among shoppers looking for clothing that is practical, easy to wear and relatively understated.
Austin Remains Part of UNIQLO’s U.S. Expansion
UNIQLO has been steadily adding stores across the United States, including locations in major markets such as New York, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco and Houston.
Austin remains part of that expansion, even with the revised timeline.
The company has not indicated that the Barton Creek Square project is being scaled back or canceled. The current update points to a delay, not a change in plans.
What Happens Next
The next major update will likely be a firm opening date from UNIQLO as construction gets closer to completion.
Until then, Austin shoppers can expect the new store to arrive sometime in 2027, with the state filing currently showing construction wrapping up by the end of April.
For Barton Creek Square, the addition will bring another internationally known retailer to one of Austin’s largest shopping centers and give local shoppers their first chance to visit a UNIQLO store without leaving the area.
