Torchy’s Tacos Brings Back Beloved Nookies Dessert After Two Years, Plus New Menu Favorites for San Antonio Diners

San Antonio / New Braunfels
October 29 2026

San Antonio has no shortage of places to grab a taco, but for fans of Torchy’s Tacos, there is something new to look forward to after the last bite. Following more than two years off the menu and thousands of requests from customers, the Texas-born restaurant chain has officially brought back Nookies, its warm, deep-fried chocolate chip cookie dough bites that developed a loyal following.

For San Antonio-area diners who remember ordering the dessert years ago, the return brings back an old favorite. For those who have never tried it, Nookies offer something a little different from the traditional desserts found around the city. The treat features chocolate chip cookie dough fried until golden and finished with cinnamon sugar.

Announced October 29, 2026, the comeback arrives as Torchy’s celebrates its 20th anniversary, with several additional menu updates planned for November. Customers at San Antonio locations, including restaurants near Stone Oak, The Rim, Lincoln Heights, the Medical Center and Bandera Road, have multiple places to check out the returning dessert.

Torchy’s Tacos Nookies Return After Thousands of Customer Requests

Originally introduced in 2008 as Lil' Nookies, the dessert became a favorite for its warm chocolate chip cookie dough center surrounded by a crispy, golden-fried exterior.

After disappearing from the menu for more than two years, Nookies are officially back, this time with a cinnamon-sugar finish.

According to Torchy’s, the decision followed thousands of requests submitted through social media, customer emails and online reviews. The restaurant's culinary team responded by bringing back the familiar dessert with a slightly updated recipe.

"At Torchy's, we're always looking for ways to push the boundaries of what guests expect from our menu, whether that means introducing something completely new or bringing back a longtime favorite like Nookies and somehow making it even more delicious," said Paul Macaluso, chief executive officer of Torchy's Tacos. "The intersection of culinary creativity, craveable flavors and listening to our guests continues to shape our menu innovation."

Members of the Torchy’s Tacos Rewards program received an early opportunity to order Nookies through an exclusive secret menu one week before the public release.

The dessert's return also follows other recent menu changes driven by customer feedback, including the addition of nachos earlier this year.

From an Austin Food Trailer to a Familiar Name in San Antonio

Although Torchy’s Tacos originated in Austin, the restaurant has become a familiar dining option across San Antonio, where residents have no shortage of opinions about what makes a good taco.

The company started in 2006 with a food trailer, a little red Vespa and a goal of creating tacos that were anything but ordinary.

Over the next two decades, Torchy’s grew from that small Austin operation into a fast-casual restaurant chain with nearly 120 locations across the United States.

Its menu helped distinguish the brand from traditional taco restaurants, featuring creative ingredient combinations, scratch-made ingredients, signature queso and rotating specialty tacos.

For San Antonio diners, the restaurant offers a different take on a food that has long been part of the city's culinary identity. While the Alamo City is known for its family-owned taquerias, breakfast tacos and longstanding Tex-Mex traditions, Torchy’s has built its own following around unconventional flavors and specialty menu items.

With restaurants now serving several parts of San Antonio, the brand has become a popular spot for everything from a quick weekday lunch to a casual meal with family or friends.

The return of Nookies gives those customers an opportunity to revisit a dessert from the restaurant's earlier years while introducing it to a new generation of diners.

New November Menu Features Rebel Yell Taco and Pineapple Margarita

Along with the return of Nookies, Torchy’s is introducing two limited-time November menu offerings.

The Rebel Yell Taco combines grilled shrimp, crispy bacon, cabbage slaw, jack cheese and guajillo fried onions. It is finished with smoky BBQ sauce and chipotle ranch and served on a fresh flour tortilla.

The combination brings together seafood, bacon and several layered flavors in the kind of specialty taco that has become a hallmark of the restaurant's menu.

For the November Drink of the Month, Torchy’s is introducing a Pineapple Margarita made with tequila, Grand Marnier, real pineapple puree and lime juice.

Both the Rebel Yell Taco and Pineapple Margarita are scheduled to be available throughout November 2026.

For San Antonio residents who enjoy trying seasonal restaurant specials, the monthly offerings provide another reason to explore the menu beyond their usual orders.

Torchy’s Taco Two-Step Deal Continues Through November 10

Customers looking for a limited-time meal deal also have an option to consider.

Torchy’s recently introduced its Taco Two-Step promotion after customers expressed interest in more value-oriented combo meals. The promotion is available for a limited time through November 10, 2026.

The company has also been responding to requests for additional menu variety. Earlier this year, Torchy’s introduced nachos for the first time following years of customer demand.

Together, the additions reflect the restaurant's efforts to balance returning favorites, new flavors and meal options influenced by guest feedback.

The program allows members to earn points that can be redeemed for eligible menu items, including free food and queso, while offering opportunities for early access to select promotions and menu releases.

San Antonio residents interested in participating can register through the Torchy’s Tacos Rewards program.

A Returning Favorite During Torchy’s 20th Anniversary Year

Twenty years after opening its first food trailer in Austin, Torchy’s Tacos is continuing to expand its menu while bringing back some of the items that helped build its following.

For San Antonio customers, that means the return of a dessert they may remember from earlier visits, along with opportunities to try new seasonal tacos, drinks and limited-time promotions.

The return of Nookies is also a reminder that customer requests can influence what restaurants decide to serve. After thousands of messages asking for the dessert to come back, Torchy’s has added it to the menu once again.

Whether stopping by a Torchy’s location near Stone Oak, grabbing lunch around the Medical Center or visiting the restaurant while shopping near The Rim, San Antonio diners now have another option for ending their meal on a sweet note.
