The Kebab Shop Is Coming to Katy: New Restaurant Planned at The Centre at Parkwest on I-10 Near Katy Fort Bend Road
Katy residents who enjoy a good shawarma wrap or a plate of freshly grilled kebabs will soon have another place to satisfy their cravings. The Kebab Shop, a San Diego-based Mediterranean restaurant chain that has been expanding throughout Greater Houston, is planning a new location at The Centre at Parkwest, a developing shopping and dining center along the Katy Freeway near Katy Fort Bend Road.
The restaurant is slated for 24714 Katy Freeway, where construction documents call for a 2,000-square-foot space and an estimated $380,000 interior buildout. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), work is scheduled to begin December 1, 2026, with completion anticipated by May 1, 2027.
An official opening date has not been announced, but the plans give Katy residents something new to look forward to as more restaurants and retail businesses take shape near the busy Interstate 10 intersection.
From San Diego to Katy: The Story Behind The Kebab Shop
The Kebab Shop got its start in downtown San Diego in 2007, long before Mediterranean bowls and shawarma wraps became commonplace at fast-casual restaurants across the country.
Inspired by the kebab shops found throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, the founders wanted to bring the flavors of döner kebabs, grilled meats and fresh vegetables into a restaurant where customers could get a satisfying meal without the formality or wait of a traditional sit-down dining experience.
That first San Diego restaurant eventually grew into a chain with more than 55 locations across California, Texas and Florida.
The menu has remained central to the company's popularity. Customers can order wraps stuffed with chicken shawarma or carved lamb and beef, or build bowls and plates with choices such as saffron chicken, beef kofta, grilled steak and chickpea falafel.
Meals can be paired with saffron rice, fresh vegetables, pita bread and a selection of sauces, including the restaurant's garlic yogurt sauce. The menu also features hummus, salads and Crave Fries, which are topped with feta cheese, pickled red onions and garlic yogurt sauce.
For anyone unfamiliar with The Kebab Shop, the idea is fairly simple: choose a protein, decide whether it belongs in a wrap, bowl or plate, and add the sides and sauces that sound good. It's a casual alternative to burgers, pizza or Tex-Mex, with plenty of options for customers who prefer a meal built around vegetables.
The company also offers family meals and catering at participating locations, although the specific offerings for the Katy restaurant have not yet been announced.
What Else Is Planned at The Centre at Parkwest?
The Kebab Shop won't be the only restaurant drawing attention to The Centre at Parkwest.
The approximately 4.47-acre commercial development, marketed by Main Street Commercial Partners, is planned around four commercial pads with frontage along Interstate 10.
A conceptual site plan for the property includes several familiar restaurant names, including Velvet Taco and Hopdoddy Burger Bar, along with The Kebab Shop, Wonder, Starbird, and a Chop Shop concept. The plans also show a drive-through quick-service restaurant space and a proposed bank.
While those names appear in the development's marketing materials, the site plan is conceptual and should not be taken as confirmation that every restaurant or business shown has finalized its plans to open.
The development's location is a major part of its appeal. The property sits near Katy Mills Mall, No Label Brewing Company and Katy ISD's Legacy Stadium, with access from the I-10 frontage road.
Another state filing for The Centre at Parkwest describes construction of a 13,163-square-foot retail shell building and related site improvements, with an estimated project cost of $1.95 million and a scheduled completion date in March 2027.
For residents who have watched the commercial areas around Katy Mills and the Katy Freeway change over the years, The Centre at Parkwest is another project bringing new businesses to an already active part of town.
The Kebab Shop Has Been Expanding Across Greater Houston
The upcoming Katy restaurant follows several other The Kebab Shop locations that have opened throughout the Houston area.
Residents who want to try the food before the Katy location opens can find the chain in Cypress along Fry Road, in Sugar Land along University Boulevard, in Magnolia along FM 2978 and in Houston's West University and Vintage areas.
The company has also identified additional Houston-area locations in development, including Bunker Hill, Kingwood, Missouri City and New Caney.
Katy is particularly interesting because The Kebab Shop has been connected to another local development as well.
In June 2026, commercial real estate firm NewQuest announced that the chain had signed a lease for a roughly 2,100-square-foot restaurant at Texas Heritage Marketplace, a separate development along the Katy Freeway.
That property is different from The Centre at Parkwest, where the newly filed construction project is located. The two locations suggest that the company sees room for more than one restaurant in the broader Katy market, although opening plans and timelines remain subject to change.
When Will The Kebab Shop Open in Katy?
Based on the current state construction filing, work on The Kebab Shop at The Centre at Parkwest is expected to begin December 1, 2026, and wrap up by May 1, 2027.
That timeline suggests the restaurant could open sometime in 2027, but the company has not announced a grand opening date. Construction completion does not necessarily mean a restaurant is ready to begin serving customers, since final inspections, staffing, training and other opening preparations may still be needed.
For now, the planned restaurant gives Katy diners another name to add to their list of places to try.
Whether it's a chicken shawarma wrap for lunch, a rice bowl after work or a family dinner picked up on the way home, The Kebab Shop will bring a different kind of fast-casual option to the Katy Freeway corridor.
Residents can explore the menu, find existing restaurants and watch for opening announcements at The Kebab Shop's official website.
