The Ice Bath Club Plans $1.1M Austin Wellness Club With Cold Plunges, Sauna and Café on River Street

Austin
September 04 2026

Austin is getting another wellness concept, but this one is not trying to look like a traditional spa.

The Ice Bath Club, a recovery-focused social club founded in Singapore, is planning its first Austin location at 700 River St, Austin, TX 78701, where a ground-floor space is expected to be transformed into a 3,355-square-foot club with cold plunges, a sauna, hot tub, locker rooms and a café.

According to a state project filing, the privately funded renovation is estimated at $1.1 million, with construction scheduled to begin Oct. 30, 2026, and wrap up in late February 2027.

The location puts the concept in the heart of downtown Austin, close to the Rainey Street area and Lady Bird Lake — a part of town where fitness, recreation and social life already tend to overlap.

And that overlap is exactly where The Ice Bath Club seems to fit.

A Wellness Club Built Around Hanging Out

The Ice Bath Club was founded in Singapore in 2024 with a simple idea: make recovery feel less clinical and more social.

Instead of treating cold plunges and saunas as an occasional luxury, the company wants people to work them into everyday life — the same way they might stop for coffee, go for a run or meet a friend after work.

“We're a social recovery club for motivated people,” the company says.

It describes the concept even more simply as “your neighbourhood sauna & cold plunge.”

The clubs are designed around communal recovery spaces rather than private treatment rooms. Guests can move between ice baths, saunas and hot baths, then grab coffee, smoothies or something to eat in the café.

The goal is not just to get people in and out quickly. The company clearly wants people to stay awhile.

That social angle may be especially well suited to Austin, where run clubs, boutique fitness classes, cycling groups and other activity-based communities have become part of the city’s social fabric.

What’s Planned at 700 River St.

The Austin project calls for a renovation of existing space on the first floor of a multifamily high-rise.

Plans include a cold plunge, sauna, hot tub, locker rooms and café within roughly 3,355 square feet.

That combination gives the project a different feel from a standard gym or day spa. It is part recovery space, part neighborhood hangout.

The company’s existing model also centers on drop-in access rather than making every visit feel like an appointment. The Ice Bath Club promotes unlimited visits and no pre-booking as part of its broader approach to making recovery easier to fit into daily routines.

For people living or working downtown, that could mean stopping in after a workout, cooling down after a run around Lady Bird Lake or meeting friends without heading to a bar or restaurant.

How the Ice Baths Work

Cold plunges are the headline attraction, but The Ice Bath Club encourages guests to pair them with heat.

“We encourage 3 rounds of contrast therapy (hot-cold) for best results,” the company advises.

Its general routine starts with 10 to 15 minutes in a sauna or hot bath before moving into the cold water.

For the plunge itself, the company recommends getting in slowly, focusing on steady breathing and generally staying in for two to four minutes.

It also offers an important reminder: “Listen to your body, and do not overdo any of the baths/sauna if you are not feeling well.”

That guidance is broad and not a substitute for medical advice, particularly for people with conditions that may be affected by extreme heat or cold.

Yes, the Water Is Constantly Filtered

For anyone wondering about the logistics of communal ice baths, The Ice Bath Club says its plunge pools run on a 24-hour filtration system that removes dirt and particles from the water.

The company also says the water is tested daily to maintain proper pH levels.

That kind of system is an important part of the concept because the clubs are built for regular, shared use throughout the day.

From Singapore to Austin

The Austin location would be another step in a fairly rapid international expansion for a company that launched only two years ago.

The Ice Bath Club currently operates clubs in parts of Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia, while its website also lists several future or prospective markets, including Austin.

The brand has grown around a broader lifestyle pitch that goes beyond cold exposure alone. Existing clubs include cafés and community programming, and the company promotes a social environment built around recovery, movement and connection.

In some markets, that has included running groups, cycling, boot camps and organized recovery sessions.

That broader approach is likely to matter in Austin, where wellness concepts often succeed as much because of the communities around them as the services themselves.

What Happens Next

Construction at the Austin location is currently expected to begin Oct. 30, with completion targeted for Feb. 26, 2027.

The Ice Bath Club has not yet announced an official Austin opening date, and construction schedules can change.

Still, the project gives downtown Austin another sign of how quickly the city’s wellness scene is evolving — and how much newer concepts are moving beyond traditional gyms and spas.

If the project stays on track, Austinites may soon have a new place to sweat, plunge, recover, grab a coffee and catch up with friends, all under one roof.
