Tavola West Heavy Trash Pickup Set for October 15 and 29: What Residents Can Put Out

Tavola West  /
October 03 2026

Tavola West residents planning to clear out an old piece of furniture, dispose of an appliance or bundle yard trimmings have two upcoming heavy-trash pickup dates: Thursday, October 15, and Thursday, October 29.

These dates apply to homes served by East Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 5. WM provides the district’s collection service, with a limit of two eligible bulk items per pickup. Recycling is collected on those same dates.

What Can Go Out for Heavy Pickup?

Eligible items include old furniture, appliances, flattened and bundled moving boxes, and yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves and tree trimmings. Any personal container used for this service must be no larger than 35 gallons.

Branches and tree trimmings need preparation before collection: keep them no more than 3 inches in diameter, cut them into 4-foot lengths, and tie them into bundles weighing 50 pounds or less.

Refrigerators, freezers and other appliances containing refrigerant require certification that the refrigerant has been properly removed and recycled before WM can collect them.

Items to Leave Out of the Pickup Pile

Heavy-trash service does not accept tires, gasoline or oil containers and filters, lithium batteries, propane tanks, hazardous chemicals, large metal pieces or landscape rock. Construction debris, including paint and carpet, is also excluded, along with televisions, computer monitors and other electronic waste. Windows and bathroom mirrors from construction projects are not accepted.

Before carrying a questionable item to the curb, check the district’s collection guide. The two-item allowance applies to eligible bulk materials; it does not make every oversized item acceptable.

Regular Trash and Recycling Have Different Rules

Regular household trash is collected on Mondays and Thursdays in the green-lid WM cart. For that service, collection is limited to material inside the cart. The separate bulk-item allowance applies on designated heavy-pickup dates.

Place recycling loose in the yellow-lid WM cart, flatten cardboard and leave out plastic bags. Overflow recycling beside the cart is not collected.

Have carts curbside by 7 a.m., with the wheels facing the house. Leave at least 4 feet between carts and between each cart and parked cars, mailboxes or trees.

For Tavola West households using MUD 5’s service, keeping the October 15 and 29 dates handy—and checking an item’s eligibility before setting it out—can make the next cleanup easier to plan.
