Tavola West Residents Invited to Meet Adoptable Dogs at Cars and Canines Event Near The Woodlands
For families who have been talking about adopting a dog but have not made it to the shelter, an upcoming event near The Woodlands is bringing some of Montgomery County's adoptable pets directly into the community.
Montgomery County Animal Shelter will team up with MINI of The Woodlands for the Cars and Canines Adoption Event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 22, at MINI of The Woodlands, 16675 I-45 in Conroe.
Residents of Tavola West will have a chance to meet adoptable dogs and puppies in person, spend some time getting to know them and potentially head home with a new family companion.
Adoptable Dogs and Puppies Ready to Go Home
According to Montgomery County Animal Shelter, the dogs and puppies attending the event will already be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, helping take care of several important first steps before an adoption is finalized.
That is consistent with the shelter's standard adoption program. Montgomery County Animal Shelter says its adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, deworming and microchipping, while adult dogs are also tested for heartworms.
The shelter's current standard adoption fee is listed as $40 for dogs and $20 for cats, with spay or neuter surgery, a microchip, vaccines and rabies vaccination included.
MINI of The Woodlands will also provide complimentary refreshments during the two-hour adoption event.
A Community-Based Way to Help Montgomery County Shelter Pets
The event offers more than a convenient place to meet adoptable dogs. Bringing animals outside the shelter and into familiar community gathering places can introduce them to families who may not otherwise visit an animal shelter as part of their weekend plans.
Montgomery County Animal Shelter, also known as Montgomery County Animal Services, operates at 8535 State Highway 242 in Conroe, near The Woodlands. The county-run shelter says its mission centers on engaging the community while providing humane, efficient and high-quality care for animals in Montgomery County.
The shelter reported a 90% live release rate for 2025 and offers several ways for residents to help animals beyond adoption, including fostering, volunteering and donating pet food, supplies, toys and towels.
Shelter officials also note that Montgomery County cares for thousands of animals each year amid an ongoing pet overpopulation challenge, making adoptions, foster homes and community partnerships an important part of creating space for incoming animals.
For Tavola West residents who have been searching for dog adoption near The Woodlands, Montgomery County pet adoption, or adoptable puppies near Conroe, the Cars and Canines event provides an opportunity to meet potential pets without making a separate trip to the shelter.
What to Know Before Adopting
Families considering adoption may want to talk beforehand about the practical side of bringing home a dog, including daily schedules, exercise needs, veterinary care, training and how a pet will fit with children or other animals already in the household.
Montgomery County Animal Shelter requires prospective adopters to complete an adoption application, which is reviewed by an adoption coordinator before an adoption is approved. Once approved, adopters complete an adoption contract and any applicable adoption fee before taking the animal home.
The shelter also recommends taking newly adopted pets to a personal veterinarian within seven days of adoption.
Those who are not ready to adopt can still support the shelter in other ways. MCAS operates a foster program that allows residents to temporarily open their homes to animals that need time away from the shelter, a step the organization describes as an important part of its lifesaving efforts.
