Spring ISD's Smart Start Program Prepares Youngest Students for Success
Parents and families of Smart Start students had reason to celebrate Friday morning, May 19, as they witnessed the graduation of their students in a ceremony held at the district’s Family and Community Engagement Center.
“I can’t stop smiling,” Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa said. “This program here in Spring ISD is made possible because of the priority that we have to start early. We believe children need to start early and have a strong foundation for their future success.”
In all, 28 students graduated from the Smart Start program this year. Smart Start is an early childhood outreach program that is available to Spring ISD families with preschool-age children, free of charge. Instruction is also available in both English and Spanish.
The program gives students a variety of ways to learn, including in-home instruction on a weekly basis, interactive learning groups, and access to ReadyRosie, an online resource for parents.
Smart Start is a part of the early childhood investment of Spring ISD, a point reiterated by Tranita Carroll, the executive director of family and community engagement for the district.
“This is just the first time you’ll be in your cap and gown. Imagine how you’ll really feel when 12th grade comes,” Carroll said. “In Spring ISD, we think ahead. This Smart Start program is so important because we begin with the end in mind. And that end is high school graduation.”
