Spring ISD Student-Athletes Celebrate Commitment on 2025 National Signing Day

February 05 2025

Spring ISD witnessed a powerful display of dedication and achievement as student-athletes from Westfield, Spring, and Dekaney High Schools gathered to celebrate 2025 National Signing Day. The event marked the official commitment of 20 senior athletes, who signed letters of intent to pursue their collegiate athletic careers. With support from proud family members, coaches, and peers, the athletes sealed their next chapter, committing to universities such as Rice University, Howard University, and the University of Southern California.

The student-athletes represented various sports, including football, baseball, and even rowing, underscoring the diversity of talent within the district. These athletes will continue their journeys at schools both near and far, from Rice University to the prestigious West Point (Army) and beyond.

Spring High School Celebrates Five Athletes

Spring High School’s gymnasium buzzed with excitement as over 75 attendees, including family members, friends, and coaches, gathered to celebrate five student-athletes who are set to further their education and sports careers at the collegiate level.

The student-athletes honored included Rueben Ingram (Henderson State), Merrico Phillips (Blinn College), Ahran Ogbor (Rice University), Carson Culbertson (Nelson College), and Kori Sessions (Rollins College). For Sessions, the event was particularly meaningful. After an ankle injury disrupted her volleyball career, she transitioned to rowing after receiving an offer from Rollins College.

"I'm really proud of myself," said Sessions. "I've always worked hard, and that's another reason why I've had the opportunity to go somewhere like Rollins."

Spring High School’s Athletic Director, Antonio Singleton, expressed his pride in the athletes, emphasizing their perseverance and hard work. “These kids worked extremely hard, and I couldn’t be prouder,” Singleton said. “They all deserve this opportunity, and it has been a true pleasure to have them as a part of the Spring Lion community.”

Westfield High School Honors Nine Standout Athletes

At Westfield High School, nine athletes were celebrated for their athletic achievements, which led them to sign with universities across the country. Kadarious Coleman, a standout football player, is headed to Texas A&M University - Kingsville, bringing with him a strong academic record and a legacy of discipline. Coleman, who leaves Westfield with a 3.7 GPA, spoke about his ambitions for the next chapter.

“I want to make an impact when I get there,” Coleman said. “I want to be a sound player, I will go out there and be very hard working, have my head on straight, go to class, and do everything I need to do so I can succeed.”

Zachary Gibbs, a key player for Westfield’s undefeated district season, is off to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. He spoke about his commitment to his family and faith, saying, “I’m looking forward to being a dog on the field, getting close with God on and off the field, and doing what I have to do to take care of my family.”

Other notable Westfield signees included Joseph Albright (Texas Christian University), Nehemiah Allen (Army-West Point), and Lathan Fletcher (East Texas Baptist University).

Dekaney High School Celebrates Six College-Bound Football Stars

Dekaney High School proudly celebrated six athletes signing letters of intent to continue their football careers at the collegiate level. Among the standout athletes was Kyle Dillon, who will be attending Howard University. Dillon, who has maintained a strong commitment to academic excellence, expressed gratitude for his support network.

“This is just a blessing to be able to come out here and have all my friends and family who supported me after this long journey we have been through,” Dillon said.

Dillon’s father, Kyle Dillon Sr., reflected on his son's journey, saying, "To see he's been from kindergarten all the way to here, and now he's at the point where he's about to go to the next level, I'm so thankful for everybody in Spring ISD."

Another notable Dekaney athlete, Tanook "Nu Nu" Hines, signed with the University of Southern California (USC). Hines, who received around 40 offers from top programs, including the University of Georgia and Notre Dame, is excited to compete at the highest level.

"I'm really just grateful for this opportunity," Hines said. "I'm trying to get there and I'm trying to show them my talents."

The other Dekaney signees include Nick Townsend (University of Texas - Austin), Jamal Frilot (University of Texas - El Paso), Sean Primas (Navarro College), and Daevon Scott (McPherson College).

A Legacy of Hard Work and Achievement

As National Signing Day came to a close, the Spring ISD community celebrated not just the athletes, but their families and coaches, who have played a pivotal role in supporting and encouraging these students. The signing ceremony was a reminder of the dedication, perseverance, and teamwork that define these young athletes and the proud legacy of Spring ISD athletics.

With each signature, these students took the next step toward building bright futures, both on the field and in the classroom. As they continue their athletic careers, they remain a living example to the power of hard work, resilience, and community support.
