Spring ISD Honors Class of 2023 Valedictorians and Salutatorians at Annual Banquet

May 31 2023

With graduations set to take place later this week, Spring ISD recognized the top of the class students at the annual Valedictorian and Salutatorian Recognition Dinner, held May 25 at the Randall Reed Center.

The top two ranked students from Dekaney High School, Spring Early College Academy, Spring High School, Westfield High School, and Carl Wunsche Sr. High School were in attendance, along with their friends, family, and campus leaders.

“Seeing the remarkable diversity and the incredible achievements shows me that we are doing something right here in Spring ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa said. “These students are the example of the incredible things that can be done over the course of 12 years.”

The evening included a special student performance from the Spring High School Jazz Ensemble, as well as remarks from special guests such as keynote speaker Brandon Look Fong and Spring ISD Board of Trustees President Justine Durant.

“Becoming a valedictorian or a salutatorian is no easy task, nor is it an accomplishment reflecting the efforts of just one or two semesters,” Durant said. “This is the result of more than a decade’s worth of hard work.”

Fong, a 2018 graduate of Spring Early College Academy and valedictorian of that class, provided the keynote address. Fong earned a biomedical engineering degree from Texas A&M, and is now pursuing a dual medical degree and Master of Engineering.

“As you move into this new chapter of life, I challenge you to be true to yourself, take risks, explore and pursue your passions relentlessly,” Fong told the soon-to-be graduates. “You have the power to touch lives, inspire others, and leave a long-lasting legacy. I encourage you to stand up for what’s right, challenge the status quo when needed, and to make your mark on history.”
