Spring ISD Earns 10th-Consecutive 'Best Communities for Music Education' Award
For the 10th consecutive year, Spring ISD has been named among the country’s Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).
“We are so excited to be celebrating 10 straight years of this national recognition,” Spring ISD Director of Performing and Visual Arts Joe Clark said. “Music education provides students with opportunities to develop creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills – not to mention fostering social and emotional development and positive self esteem. So it’s especially rewarding to be a part of that for our students.”
The award, now in its 24th year, honors districts for their achievements in providing access to a quality music education for all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, districts must answer detailed questions about arts program funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
"We are immensely proud to receive the Best Communities for Music Education award for the 10th consecutive year,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “This milestone not only demonstrates our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional music programs but also highlights the dedication and talent of our educators and students. Together, we continue to make Spring ISD a national leader in music education."
According to a press release from the NAMM Foundation, this year’s awards program acknowledges and celebrates innovative schools and districts that have developed a stronger presence for music education on campus and in the lives of students.
“Music education, as part of a well-rounded education, has never been more important to unleash students’ creativity and supports emotional health and well-being as they build connections through music activities,” said Mary Luehrsen, Executive Director of The NAMM Foundation, in the release from the organization.
The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,300 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.
