Spring Area Family of Lawyers Creates Game to Educate Youth on Law

December 27 2023

A new game is making waves in the legal and gaming world. Developed by the Johnson family in Spring, a group that boasts five lawyers with over a century of combined experience, the game is aptly titled 'CRIME NO CRIME.' The Johnsons, including a criminal district court judge, prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, and corporate lawyers, created this revolutionary game to educate the public on the intricacies of the law.

The family noticed a troubling lack of legal knowledge among the general populace and designed CRIME NO CRIME to bridge that knowledge gap. Lonnie Johnson, a retired ExxonMobil Senior Counsel, and Eartha Johnson, CEO of Risk Mitigation Worldwide and former Exxon Mobil Attorney, are the parents in this close-knit family of legal professionals. Their children Teiva Bell, Tiera Johnson Williams, and Antuan Johnson, are a judge, a prosecutor, and a criminal defense attorney, respectively.

CRIME NO CRIME is a unique, educational, and crime-deterrent game comprising 252 cards. Each card presents real-life scenarios of misdemeanors, felonies, and the legal process. The game, designed for two teams of up to four players each, focuses on severe charges to underscore the consequences of illegal conduct. Players earn points by correctly identifying whether the conduct described on the card constitutes a crime.

The game emerged from the Johnsons' experiences with youth offenders who didn't realize their actions were crimes or didn't fully grasp the gravity of their situations. The Johnsons hope that CRIME NO CRIME can alert people, particularly younger generations, to the nature and consequences of their actions, fostering better decision-making in the process.

As such, they aim to educate youth about the law through their innovative game, thereby preventing individuals from falling foul of the law, out of ignorance.

By educating the youth of today, the Johnson family hopes to shape better citizens of tomorrow, creating a safer and more understanding society.
