Special Pals Brings Dogs and Cats Looking for Homes to Willowbrook Mall October 10

Northwest Houston
October 08 2026

A trip to Willowbrook Mall this Saturday could lead to a new family member. Special Pals is bringing adoptable dogs and cats to the Northwest Houston shopping center on October 10, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m., giving residents a chance to meet animals looking for homes while supporting a local rescue organization.

The mobile adoption event will take place inside the mall at Center Court next to H&M, at 2000 Willowbrook Mall, Houston, TX 77070. For neighbors considering adoption, it offers an opportunity to meet pets away from the shelter and learn more about Special Pals’ work.

A Local Rescue With More Than Four Decades of History

Founded in 1979, Special Pals is a nonprofit animal shelter based at 3830 Greenhouse Road in Houston. Its work includes rescuing and rehoming animals, connecting pets with foster families and offering low-cost wellness clinics. Proceeds from those clinics help support the care of animals awaiting adoption.

That work continues long before an animal meets a potential adopter. Foster homes provide temporary care, volunteers contribute their time, and donors help cover the supplies and services that keep the shelter operating. Saturday’s visit brings that effort into a familiar community gathering place, where residents can get to know the organization firsthand.

Special Pals’ 2025 figures put the scope of that work into perspective: 1,721 animals accepted, 1,611 animals adopted, 2,200 spay and neuter surgeries performed, and 1,200 pets treated at wellness clinics. The organization also listed a 2025 goal of rescuing more than 2,000 animals. Those numbers reflect both the effort to find pets homes and the services that help families care for animals they already love.

Residents Can Help Even Without Adopting

Special Pals will also collect donations from its wishlist during the event. Residents who cannot bring home a pet can still contribute supplies for animals in the shelter’s care.

The shelter’s current wishlist includes dog and cat food, training treats, durable toys, leashes, collars and litter, along with everyday cleaning supplies such as laundry detergent, dish soap and paper towels. Online wishlists through Amazon, Chewy and Walmart also allow supporters to send supplies directly to the shelter.

For Northwest Houston residents, the afternoon offers a straightforward way to help: meet a pet, bring a needed item or learn about fostering and volunteering. Event details are available on the Special Pals adoption event page. Questions can be directed to 281-579-7387 or info@specialpals.org.
