Snap-a-Box Introduces Texas' First Robot-Cooked Chinese Takeout in Katy's Jordan Ranch

January 07 2026

A new kind of Chinese takeout has landed in Jordan Ranch, and it’s serving up sizzling stir-fries with a high-tech twist. Snap-a-Box, which opened in September 2025, is Texas’ first Chinese restaurant built around robot-assisted wok cooking—and it’s already making waves across the Katy and Fulshear communities.

Located at 29807 Jordan Crossing Blvd, Suite 700, across from the new H-E-B in the fast-growing Katy-Fulshear corridor, Snap-a-Box is a fast-casual Chinese kitchen that blends authentic flavors, automation, and a uniquely personal story. The restaurant is family-owned and operated by Ryan and Kankan, a husband-and-wife duo whose journey from dishwashing and piano teaching to restaurant innovation is as compelling as their food.

“Our kitchen uses a robotic wok system to cook real high heat stir fry dishes, allowing us to serve both authentic Chinese dishes and classic takeout favorites with consistent quality, even during peak hours,” said Ryan.

The robot, which sears food at temperatures up to 600ºF, mimics the signature wok hei flavor traditionally only achievable by seasoned chefs. With its precise timing and ingredient firing, it ensures every dish is consistent—whether it’s Kung Pao Chicken, Legit Fried Rice, or spicy Sichuan-style Mapo Tofu. And every item is made from scratch with fresh ingredients, not pre-packaged kits.

The founders’ story adds an extra layer of flavor. Ryan began his career as a dishwasher and later rose to become a district manager at Panda Express before transitioning into the tech world to create restaurant software. Kankan, a lifelong piano teacher and mom of two, discovered her love and talent for cooking in her own kitchen.

“We first met working part-time at a small Chinese restaurant, right after moving to the U.S. We were just trying to make it—scrubbing dishes, prepping orders, chasing tips. We had no idea it would spark a love story and a future restaurant.”

After years of juggling tech startups, family life, and dreams of something bigger, the pair built Snap-a-Box from the ground up—developing every recipe, system, and process themselves.

More than just cutting-edge cooking, Snap-a-Box is redefining what modern takeout can look like. The restaurant uses eco-friendly kraft packaging to cut down on waste, and it has eliminated tipping pressure, offering a refreshing no-tip model for both dine-in and pickup customers.

“Beyond the robot, we focus on modernizing the takeout experience overall, from eco-friendly kraft packaging to a no tipping pressure approach for dine in and pickup.”

The menu strikes a thoughtful balance between nostalgic Chinese-American classics and bold, authentic regional dishes. Guests can choose favorites like General Tso’s Chicken and Broccoli Beef or opt for bolder options like Spicy Chili Chicken or Dry Pot Beef. Kids’ combos, real-deal dumplings, and crowd-pleasers like Cheesy Shrimp Balls and Lava Rice Mochi round out the diverse offerings.

Snap-a-Box is also rooted in its local community. The restaurant has already partnered with local school districts, sponsored youth sports teams, and catered school and corporate events in the Katy and Fulshear areas. It sits at the epicenter of five master-planned communities, making it a convenient and flavorful stop for busy families and weekday lunch crowds alike.

As robotics, sustainability, and family flavor converge, Snap-a-Box is proving that Chinese takeout can be both nostalgic and next-gen—without sacrificing heart.
