Sign Up for Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Vacation Watch & Protect Your Home This Summer

May 20 2026

With summer just days away, many families are planning to leave town for vacation. Thanks to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office Vacation Watch Program, securing their property while they are away is a breeze. This free service provides extra patrols and random security checks for registered homes, adding an extra layer of protection against potential burglaries and property crimes.

How the Vacation Watch Program Works

The Vacation Watch Program, offered by Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s office, allows deputies to monitor unoccupied homes through randomized patrols at various times of the day. Officers will visually inspect the property, ensuring there are no signs of forced entry, suspicious activity, or security breaches.

Homeowners must submit a request through the official Vacation Watch Request Form before leaving town. Requests must include details such as departure and return dates, emergency contact information, and any authorized persons allowed on the property during the homeowner’s absence.

Important Note: If travel plans change, homeowners must notify the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office at 281-376-3472 to update or cancel their request.

Tips to Secure Your Home Before Leaving for Summer Vacation

As families prepare for summer vacations, taking extra precautions to safeguard their homes is crucial. In addition to registering for the Vacation Watch Program, homeowners can follow these security measures:

1. Make Your Home Appear Occupied
  • Use smart home automation to schedule indoor and outdoor lights to turn on at random times.

  • Arrange for a neighbor or friend to collect mail, newspapers, and packages to prevent buildup.

  • Leave a vehicle in the driveway or ask a trusted friend to park their car occasionally.

2. Strengthen Home Security Measures
  • Lock all doors and windows, including garage doors and pet entrances.

  • Install motion-sensor lights and surveillance cameras around entry points.

  • Ensure alarm systems are activated, and notify your security provider of your travel plans.

3. Limit Publicly Shared Travel Plans
  • Avoid posting vacation details or departure times on social media.

  • Wait until returning home to share travel photos and experiences.

4. Remove Potential Hiding Spots for Intruders
  • Trim overgrown hedges and secure outdoor valuables, such as tools and bicycles.

  • Lock side gates and reinforce backyard fences to restrict unauthorized access.

5. Get Help from Trusted Neighbors
  • Ask a neighbor to check on the house periodically.

  • Provide emergency contact details to a friend or neighbor in case of unexpected incidents.
