Roofing Guidelines for Governors Place: What You Need to Know

Roofing Guidelines for Governors Place: What You Need to Know

August 22 2024

Attention Governors Place residents! With many homeowners in the Katy area currently replacing or repairing their roofs after the recent Hurricane Beryl and the derecho storm this past summer, it’s important to be aware of our community's roofing guidelines. Following these guidelines ensures that your roofing project aligns with our community standards and maintains the aesthetic harmony of Governors Place.

Key Roofing Guidelines

  1. Shingle Requirements: All roofing must be done with composition shingles unless you receive prior written approval from the Architectural Review Committee. Please note that wood shingles are not allowed.

  2. Color Restrictions: To maintain a cohesive look, acceptable shingle colors are earth tones such as black, brown, tan, or gray. Bright colors like blues, reds, or yellows are prohibited.

  3. Ridge Vents: While ridge vents are encouraged to improve ventilation, reduce attic temperature, and lower cooling costs, they are not mandatory.

  4. Roof Protrusions: Any roof protrusions, including vents and roof jacks, must be painted to match the shingles to ensure a uniform appearance.

  5. Alternate Shingles: If you are considering using shingles designed for wind and hail resistance, better heating or cooling efficiency, or solar energy capture, you must get advance written approval from the Architectural Review Committee. These shingles should:

    • Resemble the shingles used or authorized within the subdivision.
    • Be of equal or superior quality and durability compared to the shingles used or authorized.
    • Match the aesthetics of the surrounding properties.

Submit Your Project for Review

Before starting any roofing project, make sure to submit your plans for review to ensure compliance with our community guidelines. This step is crucial to avoid any potential issues and to maintain the visual appeal of our neighborhood. You can submit your project for review here.

Following these guidelines helps preserve the character of Governors Place and ensures that everyone’s home complements the overall aesthetic of our community. If you have any questions or need clarification, don’t hesitate to reach out to Sandy, the assistant community manager for Governors Place, at 281-945-4614 or.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping to keep Governors Place a beautiful place to call home!
