Fire Damages Historic Vogelsang Building in Downtown Rosenberg, Temporarily Closing Beloved Local Businesses
A fire erupted early Monday morning inside the historic Vogelsang Building in Downtown Rosenberg, causing significant damage to the 115-year-old structure and forcing several well-known local businesses to temporarily close. The blaze was reported around 7:40 a.m. on August 11, and though the fire has since been contained, the road to recovery for the building and its tenants is just beginning.
According to officials, the fire appears to have started in the roof or attic and may be related to a mechanical failure. The Rosenberg Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating the incident.
Strong Regional Response
First responders from across Fort Bend County and neighboring communities joined forces to assist the Rosenberg Fire Department, including departments from Beasley, Community, Harris County ESD 48, Fort Bend County EMS, Fulshear-Simonton, Katy, Missouri City, Needville, Pearland, Richmond, Stafford, Sugar Land, Westlake, Willowfork, and the Rosenberg Police Department.
Despite the scale of the response, no injuries have been reported.

A Historic Anchor of Rosenberg
The Vogelsang Building, located in the 1900 block of Avenue G, was originally built in 1910 and has served as a vital piece of Historic Downtown Rosenberg’s architectural and cultural landscape. The two-story commercial structure has long been home to restaurants, shops, and live performance spaces that help define the city's small-town charm and growing arts scene.
Merchants Share Updates, Vow to Return
Several businesses impacted by the fire have issued statements, expressing both gratitude for the community’s support and determination to move forward.
Ol’ Railroad Café, a popular eatery known for its southern-style comfort food and downtown charm, shared on social media: “We are sad to report that we will be temporarily closed due to a fire on the other side of the building… We appreciate everyone’s outpouring of love and support… We will not let this stop us from being a part of the amazing city of Rosenberg!”
BR Vino, a local wine bar, also shared an update: “We are incredibly thankful that everyone is safe. A heartfelt thank-you to the firefighters and first responders… This week’s Bingo Night is cancelled. We’ll share updates here as soon as we have more information about reopening.”

Perhaps the most devastating blow was felt by CAST Theatrical Company, which operates out of the W.M. Long Theater in the building. “We are heartbroken over the loss of our beloved theater but we refuse to be defeated… We are working to find temporary space in which to continue the current production of She Was Only Marginally Modest,” the company posted. Performances originally scheduled for August 15–17 are now postponed, with rescheduled dates to be announced.
Other businesses currently closed include Ol’ General Store, Flowers by Tiffany, and The Agatha Mystery Theater / Creative Learning Society.
Next Steps
At this time, recovery and cleanup efforts are in the early stages. Each tenant is awaiting access to assess individual damage and plan next steps. Updates will be shared by merchants as they become available.
