Return of Spring ISD Fun Run and Wellness Fair Brings More than 200 Participants to Planet Ford Stadium
A perfect spring morning — bright blue sky, perfect temperature, and zero humidity — greeted the more than 200 runners and walkers as they lined up along the northern edge of the football field on Saturday morning at Planet Ford Stadium for Spring ISD’s Fun Run and Wellness Fair.
“I just like to run,” Zachary Zmolek, a 10th grader at Spring High School, said. “It’s a hobby of mine, and I do it with track and field too. This seemed like a good opportunity to get out, practice, and give back, too.”
Zmolek did more than just a quick practice on Saturday morning. He ended up winning first place, not only in his age range but overall.
The Fun Run made a return this year for the first time in several years due to pandemic restrictions. The race, which made a move from Old Town Spring to Planet Ford Stadium this year, featured both a timed 5K course as well as an untimed 1.5-mile run/walk.
It was paired with another annual event, the Wellness Fair, which is hosted by the Spring ISD HR department and showcases wellness vendors from around the community. That event was free of charge to anyone, both runners and the public.
“Today is our annual Wellness Day here in Spring ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa told the crowd. “Staying healthy and keeping yourself well is important, not only for our students and our teachers, but our community as well. Events like this and the Wellness Fair showcase our commitment to keeping Spring ISD healthy.”
After the run’s early start, wellness vendors set up in the Randall Reed Center. Free to the public, the wellness fair featured giveaways, healthy food trucks, massage therapy and muscle release, floatation therapy, chiropractic rehab, physical rehab, employee health benefit carriers, Zumba, yoga, tai chi, and more.
