Precinct 3 Releases Master Plan for County's Largest Park System
Commissioner Tom Ramsey is proud to introduce the Precinct 3 Parks and Trails Master Plan! The plan includes current conditions and future needs of the parks and trails, which were created after six in-person community engagement meetings hosted earlier this year throughout the Precinct. An online survey was also used to gather feedback from community members who were unable to attend the in-person meetings.
“Precinct 3 has 1.2M residents and the largest parks system in Harris County. We needed a plan to connect residents with our amazing green spaces,” said Commissioner Ramsey. “Our population is expected to double by 2045, which means engineered solutions for green activity spaces are a must for our future generations. Thank you to the residents who took time to provide us feedback. They know their parks and trails better than anyone, so we’re confident in the information incorporated into the plan.
With resident input at the heart of the Parks and Trails Master Plan, feedback includes how greenways may connect to parks, as well as requests for additional park athletic fields and increased trails for pedestrians and bicyclists.
A major goal included creating a distinct Precinct 3 park experience that accounts for population growth. Key ideas include establishing programming in underdeveloped portions of parks and highlighting natural features and greenway corridors. Precinct 3 also plans to establish linear park systems along major creeks and bayous and a seamless trail network that incorporates stormwater infrastructure and forges connections between neighborhoods and schools.
Precinct 3 projects are already underway that align with the Parks and Trails Master Plan. These include adding pickleball and basketball courts and playgrounds to various parks, studying Spring Creek Greenway connections, installing or replacing restrooms, building a Veterans War Memorial at Collins Park, making parking lot improvements at various locations, and improving drainage in parks such as Meyer Dog Park.
