Photographers Invited to Showcase Black-and-White Images at New Caney’s Caney Pines Convention Center: October 23 Deadline Approaching
Photographers with an eye for the natural beauty and character of East Montgomery County have an opportunity to share their perspective through the lens of a camera, from wooded landscapes and local landmarks to the everyday scenes that make the area recognizable to those who call it home.
The East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) is inviting photographers, photography artists and photography teams to submit black-and-white images for consideration at the Caney Pines Convention Center in New Caney, Texas. The opportunity is not limited to New Caney residents, welcoming photographers from the surrounding communities, greater Houston area and beyond who can capture the character and natural beauty of the region.
With a submission deadline of Friday, October 23, 2026, at 2 p.m., interested photographers have a limited window to select and submit their work.
Photography Opportunity Celebrates New Caney's Local Character and Natural Beauty
New Caney and the surrounding East Montgomery County area offer plenty of inspiration for photographers, particularly those drawn to wooded landscapes, natural textures and the changing light that filters through the region's trees.
EMCID is looking for striking black-and-white photography that captures these qualities while offering a thoughtful interpretation of the community.
Rather than relying on color, the requested photography should emphasize composition, light and shadow, texture and the timeless qualities of monochrome imagery. These elements are especially important because the selected works are intended to complement the convention center's interior architecture.
For photographers throughout Montgomery County, the greater Houston area and surrounding regions, the opportunity offers a chance to explore New Caney's distinctive surroundings and potentially share their interpretation of the community with people attending events and gatherings at the facility.
Caney Pines Convention Center and Its Role in East Montgomery County
The Caney Pines Convention Center is part of East Montgomery County's growing collection of community and event facilities, providing a setting for gatherings that bring people together in New Caney.
The venue will serve as a destination for meetings, celebrations and other organized events, contributing to the area's ability to accommodate both local activities and visitors.
The East Montgomery County Improvement District plays a broader role in supporting economic development, business activity and quality-of-life improvements in communities throughout the region, including New Caney and Porter.
Through initiatives involving local facilities, community amenities and economic development, EMCID works to support the area's continued growth.
The black-and-white photography opportunity connects that work with the broader creative community. Featuring images inspired by New Caney's surroundings would give the convention center an additional local connection, allowing photography to help tell the story of the place where the facility is located.
The name Caney Pines itself was chosen to reflect the area's history, including its roots in the logging industry, surrounding forests and wildlife. EMCID announced the name in September 2026 as construction entered its final stages.
The approximately 210,000-square-foot convention center is located in Valley Ranch Town Center near Interstate 69 and the Grand Parkway. The $159 million project is scheduled to celebrate its grand opening in December 2026, with facilities designed to accommodate weddings, graduations, conferences, trade shows and other events.
As the facility prepares to welcome visitors, the photography initiative offers a way to make the building's interior reflect the community outside its doors.
How to Submit Black-and-White Photography Before October 23
Photographers interested in the EMCID Call for Artists should review the submission requirements and prepare their work ahead of the approaching deadline.
Selected images are expected to be reproduced in large formats for display throughout Caney Pines Convention Center, with EMCID handling production. Following the submission deadline, a selection panel will review the entries. The panel also plans to select a photographer for an additional assignment capturing designated natural sites and subjects throughout East Montgomery County.
The deadline is Friday, October 23, 2026, at 2 p.m.
Complete submission information and application instructions are available through the Caney Pines Convention Center Call for Artists.

As Caney Pines Convention Center approaches its December opening, the photographs selected for its walls could offer visitors a closer look at the natural surroundings and local character that make East Montgomery County distinct.
