Party City Stores in Katy and Richmond Hold Liquidation Sales Amid Nationwide Closures

January 15 2025

Party City stores at the Green Tree Shopping Center in Katy and the Shops at Bella Terra in Richmond are among the local locations slated to close as part of the company’s nationwide wind-down of operations. The retailer, a staple in the party supply industry for nearly 40 years, announced in December 2024 the closure of approximately 700 stores across the U.S., marking the end of an era.

The local stores affected by the closures include:

Both locations are holding going-out-of-business sales, offering discounts of up to 75% on inventory that includes balloons, decorations, costumes, and seasonal party supplies. The Decline of a Party Retail Giant

Party City Holdco Inc. (PCHI), headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, has been a leader in the celebrations industry since its founding. The retailer became synonymous with milestone events, offering an extensive product range, including themed party supplies, tableware, costumes, and decorations for holidays and special occasions.

Despite its widespread popularity, Party City has struggled with mounting financial challenges. Inflationary pressures, changes in consumer spending habits, and competition from online retailers created a difficult operating environment. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2024, citing these obstacles.

Party City’s wind-down also reflects larger challenges for brick-and-mortar retailers in an increasingly digital landscape. The rise of online shopping, coupled with economic factors like inflation, has forced many legacy retailers to either pivot or close. Party City joins a growing list of major chains that have struggled to maintain their footing amid changing consumer preferences.

Texas has been hit particularly hard by Party City’s closures, with 72 stores shutting their doors across the state. California leads the nation with 82 closures, while New York follows with 46.

Impact on the Local Community

The closures of the Green Tree Shopping Center and Shops at Bella Terra locations leave a significant gap for party supply shoppers in Katy, Richmond, and surrounding areas. Both stores have served as convenient destinations for celebrations ranging from birthdays and weddings to seasonal events like Halloween and Christmas.

The ongoing liquidation sales offer customers the chance to purchase discounted items while bidding farewell to a retailer that has been integral to their celebrations for decades. With discounts of up to 75% on all merchandise, shoppers can find deals on party goods that have long defined the Party City experience.

The closures of Party City stores in Katy and Richmond highlight the end of an era for a brand that has been a cornerstone of celebrations for nearly 40 years. As the company shuts its doors nationwide, customers in the Katy area are encouraged to visit these locations during their final days to take advantage of significant discounts on party supplies and to commemorate a retailer that has played a role in countless milestones and memories.
