On First Day of Classes, Spring ISD Looks Forward to an 'Unstoppable' 2023-24 School Year

August 12 2023

In the early morning of August 10 — hours before students started to arrive at campuses across the district — bus drivers were up and ready for the new school year, preparing the buses and double checking routes before heading out.

“We’re on day one, ready to go,” Christina Riojas, Spring ISD Transportation Director said. “We’ve been preparing for this.”

That message — safety and preparation — was also top of mind for police officers nearby at the Spring ISD Police Department headquarters, as they gathered before dawn to roll out for the day to campuses.

“From the time those kids leave that parents’ front door to the time they get back there tonight, they belong to us,” Police Chief Matthew Rodrigue said. “We’re protecting them.”

Superintendent Dr. Hinojosa and members of the Senior Leadership team visited schools across the district throughout the day — from morning drop off to afternoon pickup — to ensure a smooth start for students and their parents.

Stops included Momentum High School and the Spring Leadership Academy, both of which are starting the year on new campuses allowing both schools to double their capacity. Other stops included Dekaney High School, where a Spring ISD alum and former University of Texas football star is making his return to the district as a first-year biology teacher, and Eickenroht Elementary School, where bond funds from the 2022 Bond are already being utilized to improve safety on campus with new fencing, front office protections, and camera upgrades.

“I know that today was the first day of an amazing school year here in Spring ISD,” Dr. Hinojosa said. “And as I like to tell the students and the staff here in Spring ISD, we are Spring and we are unstoppable. It’s going to be an amazing year.”
