Nychies Partners with Cy-Fair Helping Hands to Bring Free Grooming, Dignity, and Hope to the Homeless Community

November 12 2025

In a community where compassion often begins with simple acts, a new partnership between Nychies Hairstation and Cy-Fair Helping Hands (CFHH) is making a meaningful difference—one haircut at a time.

The collaboration pairs two mission-driven organizations deeply committed to dignity, empowerment, and neighbor-to-neighbor care. For CFHH, which has served homeless and hungry individuals since 2010, and Nychies, a nonprofit dedicated to no-cost grooming services for underserved youth, adults, seniors, and veterans, the partnership was a natural fit.

The connection began when Erin Dewalt, founder of Nychies Hairstation, reached out to CFHH with an offer to bring her skills and services directly to their clients. CFHH Executive Director Janet Ryan was immediately moved by the alignment of their missions. “Her mission to restore dignity, confidence, and self-worth fits right along with CFHH’s goals,” Ryan said. “For many of the homeless clients we serve, haircuts are not an option. They require money and transportation, and both of those things are in short supply.”

A Partnership Rooted in Dignity

Cy-Fair Helping Hands began from humble beginnings—a pot of soup shared from a pickup truck by founders Jean and John Dreyer. Today, the nonprofit encompasses a Community Food Pantry, emergency shelter services for families with children, mental health counseling, CFISD student programs, holiday initiatives, and a Homeless Day Center. One thing has never changed: the belief that every person deserves dignity and compassion.

That belief lies at the heart of Nychies Hairstation as well. The nonprofit, dedicated to the memory of Stella D. Tyson—who devoted her life to serving underserved youth and families—offers essential, no-cost grooming services. These include youth haircuts, senior trims, haircut-and-beard packages, and basic grooming care that promotes confidence, employability, and self-worth.

Real Impact in Real Time

For clients at CFHH, the arrival of Nychies brings more than a haircut—it brings connection, care, and a renewed sense of humanity.

One client, Johnny, was so proud of his fresh haircut that he couldn’t stop smiling. He told staff he was considering growing his hair long again “the way he wore it back in Alabama.” Moments like his remind volunteers and staff that change often begins with the smallest gestures.

Clients’ reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed joy, relief, and gratitude simply from knowing someone cared enough to show up for them.

While it’s too early to measure long-term effects, the promise is clear: better grooming can lead to improved confidence, stronger job prospects, a renewed sense of identity, and the motivation to take new steps forward.

A Symbol of Community Care

Partnerships like this represent the spirit of Cy-Fair—a community known for stepping up, linking arms, and making sure no one is left behind. This collaboration addresses both practical and emotional needs. A clean haircut not only helps with job readiness; it reminds individuals that they are seen, valued, and worthy of attention.

Ryan shared that working with Erin and the Nychies team has been a joy, describing how the clients’ faces light up when they sit in the chair. “She treats the clients as valuable humans,” Ryan said. “You can see happiness in their faces as she interacts with each of them.”

Looking Ahead

Both organizations hope this partnership will grow—potentially offering more frequent grooming days, job-readiness add-ons, and expanded outreach.

For now, they’re focused on the heart of the work: restoring dignity, one neighbor at a time.

How Residents Can Help

Community members can strengthen partnerships like this by:

  • Donating supplies or financial support
  • Spreading awareness
  • Volunteering time or complementary skills
  • Encouraging local businesses to get involved

In Cy-Fair, small acts of kindness often spark big change. This partnership is proof that even a haircut can help someone reclaim confidence, dignity, and hope for the road ahead.
