Nordstrom Rack Is Coming to Cypress: New Dunham Pointe Store Planned for Fall 2027
For Cypress residents who have watched new neighborhoods, restaurants and retail follow the area's continued growth, another familiar name is officially headed this way.
Nordstrom Rack plans to open a 25,000-square-foot Cypress store at Dunham Pointe in fall 2027, bringing the off-price division of Nordstrom to the developing retail destination near Highway 290 and Mason Road. Nordstrom announced the new location Sept. 1.
The addition gives residents another nearby option for clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty products and home goods while also adding a significant national retailer to Dunham Pointe's emerging mix of shops and restaurants.
“We look forward to being a part of the Cypress community and serving our customers with an amazing offering of great brands at great prices,” said Gemma Lionello, president of Nordstrom Rack. “We're excited to grow our footprint in the Houston market and introduce new customers to the Nordstrom experience.”
What Cypress Shoppers Can Expect From Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom Rack occupies a somewhat distinctive place in the off-price retail market because of its connection to the full-line Nordstrom business.
The concept began in 1973 as a clearance center in the lower level of Nordstrom's downtown Seattle store, created as another way to sell merchandise from the company's full-line operation. The first standalone Nordstrom Rack followed in Clackamas, Oregon, in 1983. Nordstrom itself traces its history to 1901, when the company began as a Seattle shoe store.
Today, Nordstrom Rack sells women's, men's and children's apparel along with shoes, bags, accessories, beauty products and home merchandise. The retailer advertises savings of up to 70% off, although discounts vary by item.
Part of the appeal is the way merchandise reaches Rack stores. Nordstrom has said the division carries merchandise from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com along with products purchased specifically for Rack from many of the brands also carried by Nordstrom. Inventory changes frequently as new deliveries arrive, giving the stores more of a treasure-hunt quality than a traditional department store where shoppers may expect essentially the same assortment from week to week.
That relationship also makes Nordstrom Rack an important entry point for the larger company. Nordstrom says Rack is its largest source of new customers.
For Cypress shoppers who already buy from either of the company's websites, the new store will serve another purpose beyond in-person shopping.
Lionello added that in this location “customers will be able to take advantage of our convenient services such as online order pick up from both Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, and they can make returns easily.”
Nordstrom Rack Joins a Growing Dunham Pointe Retail Destination
The location is notable not only because of the retailer coming to Cypress, but also because of where it is going.
Dunham Pointe's retail development sits at the Highway 290 and Mason Road intersection, within the larger Dunham Pointe master-planned community. Trademark Property Company, which owns and manages the retail property, has been assembling a mix of shopping, dining and lifestyle tenants intended to serve both Dunham Pointe residents and the broader Cypress area.
Trademark previously described the commercial project as a roughly 25-acre retail destination planned for more than 200,000 square feet of new retail space. It is part of a much larger Dunham Pointe community spanning approximately 1,300 acres and planned for thousands of homes.
That puts the Nordstrom Rack announcement into a broader story familiar to many Cypress residents: as rooftops continue spreading west and northwest of Houston, more retailers and restaurants are moving closer to the families already living there.
“Our goal for Dunham Pointe is to build a gathering place that addresses the wants and needs of the surrounding community,” said Daniel Goldware, senior vice president of leasing at Trademark Property Company. “Nordstrom Rack is a seamless addition to the tenant mix we are curating for the property. Today's shopper is increasingly focused on finding great brands at affordable prices, and that's exactly what Nordstrom Rack will provide for the Cypress community with this new location.”
Trademark said earlier this year that Dunham Pointe was drawing considerable interest from prospective tenants as the company worked to assemble its retail and restaurant lineup. Announced tenants have included several dining and lifestyle concepts like Flower Child and Amorino Gelato, and the Nordstrom Rack commitment adds another recognizable retail anchor to the project.
Another Texas Store for a Growing Nordstrom Rack Footprint
The Cypress store will join an already established Nordstrom presence across the Greater Houston area, while also filling in another piece of the retailer’s northwest Houston footprint.
Nordstrom currently operates its full-line stores at The Galleria in Houston and The Woodlands, while Nordstrom Rack has locations at Bunker Hill, Centre at Post Oak, Meyerland Plaza, Westchase Shopping Center and Willowbrook Mall in Houston, as well as stores in Shenandoah, Sugar Land and Webster.
And Cypress is not the only fast-growing suburban Houston market where Nordstrom Rack is expanding.
As My Neighborhood News reported in July, a nearly 38,000-square-foot Nordstrom Rack is also planned for the former Bed Bath & Beyond space at Shoppes at ParkWest in Katy, along the Katy Freeway near DSW and Dick’s House of Sport. That project will give shoppers on the west side of the Houston region another Rack location as the company continues extending its reach beyond Houston’s traditional retail centers.
Together, the planned Katy and Cypress stores point to a broader strategy of meeting customers closer to where much of the Houston region’s residential growth is occurring. For Cypress residents, the Dunham Pointe location will also create a more convenient option on the Highway 290 corridor rather than requiring a trip to existing Rack stores such as Willowbrook Mall or Bunker Hill.
The expansion is part of Nordstrom’s larger Texas footprint. According to the company’s Cypress announcement, Nordstrom currently operates eight Nordstrom stores and 27 Nordstrom Rack stores in Texas, supporting more than 3,400 jobs statewide.
For a retailer that started more than a century ago as a single shoe store, Nordstrom has increasingly built its business around giving customers several ways to shop — full-line stores, off-price Rack locations and online ordering. The Cypress store will bring that model directly into one of northwest Harris County’s rapidly growing residential and retail corridors.
What Happens Next
The Nordstrom Rack at Dunham Pointe is currently expected to open in fall 2027. A specific opening date, store hours and hiring information have not yet been announced.
That leaves plenty still to take shape before the doors open, including more of Dunham Pointe's eventual tenant lineup. But the Nordstrom Rack announcement offers Cypress residents a clearer picture of the type of destination developing at Highway 290 and Mason Road — and another indication that retailers are paying close attention to the population and purchasing power growing around the community.
