New Year’s Eve Fireworks Safety in Travis County After Burn Ban Lifted

December 25 2025

Travis County lifted its burn ban on November 25, 2025, following improved moisture levels. However, fire officials continue to urge Homestead Estates residents to use extreme caution heading into New Year’s Eve.

According to NFPA safety data, fireworks remain a leading cause of holiday fires, even in areas without active burn bans. Dry patches, wind, and improper use can still lead to dangerous situations.

Homestead Estates residents considering fireworks should ensure compliance with city ordinances and HOA governing documents, as fireworks may still be restricted in many neighborhoods and municipalities.

Fireworks can be a fun way to celebrate, but a few smart precautions can make a big difference. Use fireworks only where they’re legal, and choose a clear, open area away from buildings, vehicles, and dry grass. Adults should handle all fireworks, and eye protection is strongly recommended to reduce the risk of injury. Any fireworks that fail to ignite should be left alone, then soaked with water before being thrown away.

Fireworks safety reminders:

  • Keep a water source or fire extinguisher close by
  • Never relight a firework that doesn’t go off
  • Avoid using fireworks near pets or crowded areas
  • Dispose of used fireworks safely by fully wetting them
  • Check local burn bans and weather conditions before lighting

Officials remind residents that safety-conscious celebrations help reduce emergency calls and protect neighbors as the county transitions into the new year.
