New Target Opens in Katy at Texas Heritage Marketplace, Bringing Expanded Groceries, Shopping and 200 Jobs to Growing West Katy Area

Katy / Fulshear
October 12 2026

For Katy and Fulshear residents who have watched new neighborhoods, roads and businesses take shape along the western edge of the Houston area, another major addition has officially arrived. The new Target Katy Heritage store celebrated its grand opening on October 11, 2026, bringing expanded grocery shopping, everyday essentials and several convenient services to one of the region's fastest-growing residential corridors.

Located at 29355 Katy Freeway, Katy, TX 77494, the approximately 148,000-square-foot Target is one of the largest food-forward Target locations in Greater Houston. The store also brings approximately 200 jobs to the area and serves as a major retail anchor for Texas Heritage Marketplace, a 165-acre mixed-use development that has been years in the making.

For families in Katy, Fulshear, Brookshire and surrounding communities, the opening means more shopping options closer to home. It also marks an important step in the development of a much larger retail, dining and residential destination expected to continue taking shape over the coming years.

The new Target at Texas Heritage Marketplace is designed to accommodate both traditional shopping trips and quick stops for groceries, household essentials and other everyday needs.

Unlike smaller Target locations with more limited food selections, the Katy Heritage store features an expanded fresh food and beverage department, giving residents another option for grocery shopping alongside Target's familiar selection of clothing, home goods, electronics, beauty products, toys and seasonal merchandise.

The store also includes a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café and Target Optical, allowing shoppers to take care of several errands during a single visit.

For customers who prefer to shop online, the location offers Order Pickup, covered Drive Up lanes and delivery services. Electric vehicle charging stations are also available on-site.

The covered pickup lanes are a particularly practical addition for families managing busy schedules, especially during Houston's hot summers and unpredictable rainstorms. Customers can place orders through Target's app and have eligible purchases brought directly to their vehicles without needing to enter the store.

The new location joins Target's existing presence in the Katy area while expanding access to the retailer for residents living farther west along Interstate 10 and near the Texas Heritage Parkway corridor.

Target Opening Marks Major Milestone for $400 Million Texas Heritage Marketplace

The opening represents one of the most significant milestones yet for Texas Heritage Marketplace, a $400 million mixed-use project developed by Houston-based NewQuest Properties.

Construction officially began in January 2025 following nearly a decade of planning. The development occupies approximately 165 acres in Waller County near Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway, an area that has experienced substantial residential growth.

When plans were announced, NewQuest President and Chief Development Officer Austin Alvis described the significance of securing Target as the project's first major anchor.

"After all these years of work, we couldn't be happier to kick off Texas Heritage Marketplace with a great anchor like Target," Alvis said. "We are presently working with a variety of leading retailers and restaurateurs to procure the best possible mix for the project. We look forward to announcing additional anchors and tenants soon."

The development's original plans called for approximately 750,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 550 apartments across two residential communities, and nearly 300,000 square feet of medical office and self-storage facilities.

Those components are intended to create a destination where residents can shop, dine, access services and potentially live within the same development.

Lowe's, Whataburger, Sam's Club and More Retailers Joining Target in Katy

Target is not the only major business drawing attention to Texas Heritage Marketplace.

Lowe's and Whataburger are among the neighboring businesses opening around the same period, while additional retailers identified for the development include Sam's Club, Academy Sports + Outdoors and Ulta Beauty.

Together, these businesses will broaden the shopping and dining options available to residents in western Katy and northern Fulshear.

The mix is especially relevant for homeowners in developing communities who previously needed to travel farther east into Katy for certain retailers and services.

As more businesses open, Texas Heritage Marketplace is expected to serve both nearby neighborhoods and drivers traveling along Interstate 10. Individual tenant opening dates may vary as construction and store preparations continue.

Why West Katy and Fulshear's Growth Is Driving New Retail Development

The arrival of a large-format Target in western Katy reflects the area's continued residential expansion.

When NewQuest announced the groundbreaking of Texas Heritage Marketplace in January 2025, the developer reported that residential growth in the surrounding area had increased by 56% since 2020, with 4,683 homes already constructed and a future housing inventory of approximately 13,600 homes planned.

The developer also identified a surrounding trade area approaching 147,000 residents, with an average annual household income of approximately $162,886. These figures reflected the market conditions cited during the project's initial development announcement rather than an updated October 2026 population count.

A major factor supporting that growth has been the completion of Texas Heritage Parkway, a roughly 6.5-mile roadway connecting Interstate 10 with FM 1093.

The roadway has improved north-south connectivity between Katy and Fulshear, helping support residential construction and commercial development along the corridor.

For residents of communities such as Cross Creek Ranch, Jordan Ranch and other neighborhoods throughout the Katy-Fulshear area, the expanding retail corridor offers additional opportunities to shop closer to home.

The development also illustrates how commercial investment is following the rooftops being built throughout western Fort Bend and Waller counties. As new homes bring more families to the area, demand continues to grow for grocery stores, restaurants, healthcare services and other businesses that support daily life.

A Preserved Heritage Oak Tree at the Center of the Development

One of the more distinctive features of Texas Heritage Marketplace is not a store or restaurant, but a mature heritage oak tree that developers worked to preserve.

The tree originally stood in the planned path of Texas Heritage Parkway. Rather than remove it, the development team arranged for it to be relocated to the heart of the marketplace, where it is intended to become a central feature of the property's walkable gathering space.

"We wanted to invest in preserving this Heritage oak and make the project a gathering space for the community," Alvis explained during the project's initial announcement. "This project has been a major collaboration with the City of Katy, Waller County, and Texas Heritage Parkway Association, which was responsible for developing Texas Heritage Parkway. We thank them all for their support to get us to this point."

The effort adds a local connection to a development that will otherwise be recognized largely for its national retailers and commercial buildings.

It also reflects the project's broader plans to incorporate gathering areas and pedestrian-friendly spaces alongside its retail and residential components.

What's Next for Texas Heritage Marketplace in Katy?

With Target officially welcoming customers and Lowe's already operating nearby, attention now turns to the next round of retail and restaurant openings at Texas Heritage Marketplace.

Sam's Club is expected to open in March 2027, while Academy Sports + Outdoors, Ulta Beauty, Burlington and other retailers are among the businesses planned for 2027. Additional announced tenants include Bath & Body Works, EōS Fitness, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse and CAVA. Opening schedules remain subject to change.

For residents who have watched the Texas Heritage Parkway corridor develop from open land into neighborhoods and shopping centers, the new Target is a visible sign of how much the area has changed in a relatively short time.

And while the store's October 11 grand opening is an important milestone, much of Texas Heritage Marketplace is still ahead.

As construction continues and additional businesses prepare to welcome customers, residents can expect more changes along this growing stretch of Interstate 10.
