Meet the Family Behind Katy’s New Beans & Brews Coffeehouse: A Blend of Passion, Community, and Connection
For Thomas and Ashley Perrin, coffee isn’t just a morning ritual—it’s a way to bring people together. As the owners of Katy’s new Beans & Brews Coffeehouse located at 20314 Franz Road, the Perrins have turned their passion for community and connection into a business that feels like a second home. Opened in November 2024, their shop is already making an impression, offering more than just coffee to neighbors, commuters, and families.
The Perrins, who reside in Cypress with their seven children, are deeply rooted in the Katy area. Thomas, originally from Washington State, is a Texas A&M graduate and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps with extensive experience in logistics and supply chain management. Ashley, a Jersey Village native, transitioned from a career as a project manager in the oil and gas industry to become a registered nurse before diving into entrepreneurship. Together, they’re embarking on a journey to open 11 additional Beans & Brews locations across the region.
“Our goal was to create a space where people feel welcomed and connected,” Ashley Perrin explained. “We love coffee, but even more, we love the opportunity it gives us to engage with the community. Whether it’s sponsoring a local sports team, hosting a book club, or offering a quiet spot to study or relax, we want Beans & Brews to be more than just a coffee shop—it’s a gathering place.”
The Katy location of Beans & Brews offers a full range of high-altitude roasted coffees, teas, frappes, and energy drinks, along with a menu of breakfast items, sandwiches, and seasonal treats like peppermint mochas and pumpkin donut holes. The interior boasts ample seating, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of outlets, making it ideal for students, remote workers, and families alike.
“Our ‘come as you are’ vibe really resonates with people,” Ashley said. “We see folks from all walks of life enjoying our space, whether they’re grabbing a quick coffee or spending hours working on their laptops.”
The Beans & Brews brand originated in 1993 when the Laramie family opened their first shop near Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. They perfected a unique high-altitude roasting process that delivers smooth, rich flavors. Since then, the franchise has grown steadily, gaining a reputation for quality coffee and a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere.

“Beans & Brews stood out to us as a franchise because it genuinely cares about building connections,” Ashley said. “At our Grand Opening, we had the local high school Key Club doing face painting and balloon twisting, which our customers loved. It’s little things like that which make a big difference.”
The Grand Opening of Beans & Brews in Katy was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce in December 2024. Surrounded by friends, family, and local business leaders, the Perrins celebrated the start of their journey as franchise owners. Joining the Chamber was an intentional step for the couple, who hope to deepen their ties to the community and collaborate on local initiatives.
Adrienne Davitz, Vice President of Membership and Community Relations for the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed her excitement for the new addition. “Beans & Brews is a fantastic example of how businesses can strengthen the fabric of our community,” Davitz said. “Their commitment to building relationships and supporting local events is inspiring, and we’re proud to welcome them to the Katy Chamber family.”
In addition to their business endeavors, the Perrins stay busy as parents of five daughters and twin sons. When not at the coffeehouse, they enjoy coaching sports, participating in church activities, baking, and trying new coffee recipes. “It’s a lot to juggle, but our family is our foundation,” Ashley shared. “We’re teaching our kids the value of hard work, but also the importance of giving back.”
With their eyes set on opening their next location near the Sunterra community in Katy, the Perrins are excited about the future. Their District Manager, Kari Suchecki, plays a vital role in ensuring the success of their venture. “Kari is the heart of our team,” Ashley said. “She’s hardworking, kind, and has a positivity that lifts everyone around her.”
As the Katy community embraces this new addition, the Perrins are looking forward to fostering connections and providing a welcoming space for all. Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or simply looking for a friendly spot to relax, Beans & Brews is quickly becoming a must-visit destination in Katy.
