Maud Marks Library Announces Packed January 2026 Lineup for Oak Park Trails Families

Maud Marks Branch Library, located near Oak Park Trails at 1815 Westgreen Blvd, is launching 2026 with a full slate of free programs that cater to all ages. Throughout January, residents can enjoy interactive workshops, youth crafts, literacy-based storytimes, and enriching activities that reflect the library’s longstanding role as a cornerstone of the local community.

Part of the Harris County Public Library system, Maud Marks Branch Library has been serving residents in the greater Katy area since it opened its doors in 1993. With a mission to provide equitable access to information and support lifelong learning, the library offers year-round programs that promote literacy, creativity, and community engagement.

Here’s what’s happening at the library in January:

Youth and Teen Highlights

 
Teen Advisory Board & Craft Time

Teens in grades 6–12 are invited to share their ideas with librarians at the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 4:15–4:45 PM, followed by a creative craft session from 4:45–5:30 PM

Tween Craft Time

Tweens in grades 4–5 can unwind with crafts, snacks, and retro tunes on Thursday, January 8, 4:30–5:30 PM

Lego Challenge

Builders in grades 4–12 will take on a new challenge on Tuesday, January 13, 4:30–5:30 PM.

Teen Book Club: Tournament of Books Party

High schoolers can connect over great reads at the book party on Thursday, January 15, 4:30–5:15 PM.

Teen Anime Club

Join fellow anime lovers for Japanese snacks and screenings on Tuesday, January 20, 4:30–5:30 PM.

Video Game Day for Tweens & Teens

Grades 4–12 can play Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and retro games on Thursday, January 22, 4:30–5:30 PM.

Pokémon Club

Bring your binders and game mats on Tuesday, January 27, 4:30–5:30 PM. Permission slips are required for card trading.

After-School Tabletop Games

From chess to board games, grades 3–12 can join the fun on Thursday, January 29, 4:30–5:30 PM.

Maker & Tech Workshops

 
3D Printer Orientation

Learn to use the library’s 3D printer on Wednesday, January 14, 6–8 PM. Completion grants usage access and Beanstack badges.

Laser Cutter Orientation

Master the laser cutter on Friday, January 23, 4–6 PM. Space is limited—registration required.

Cricut Orientation

On Monday, January 26, 6–8 PM, attendees will learn how to use Cricut machines for personal projects.

Cooking Matters

Presented by Harris County Public Health, this hands-on nutrition class is scheduled for Monday, January 12, at 2 PM.

DIY Winter Miniature Diorama

Craft a cozy winter scene on Tuesday, January 13, at 2 PM. Registration is required.

Journaling and Vision Boards

Start 2026 with intention at this workshop on Wednesday, January 7, 6:30–7:30 PM. Journals and snacks provided.

Timeless Travelers: Museum of Fine Arts Houston Trip

Seniors 55+ can register between January 5–10 for a free field trip to MFAH on Thursday, January 22

Children’s Storytimes & Activities

 
Read & Rhyme Preschool Storytime

Every Tuesday at 10:15 AM, kids ages 3–5 build early literacy skills through fun and storytelling.

Preschool Explorers

Immediately following storytime, from 11:15–11:45 AM, preschoolers explore sensory and science stations.

Totally Toddler Time

Designed for toddlers aged 18–35 months, these sessions take place Thursdays at 10:15 and 11:15 AM. Tickets required upon early arrival.

Wednesday Wonders

Every Wednesday from 4:30–5:30 PM, kids in K–5th grade can enjoy rotating activities, including:

Reading to Dogs

Children ages 5–11 can practice reading aloud to therapy dogs on Saturday, January 31, 11 AM–12 PM. Sign-up begins 30 minutes prior.

Don’t have a library card yet? It’s easy—and free—for all residents! An HCPL card gives you access to not only Maud Marks Branch Library’s full range of programs and materials, but also digital resources like eBooks, audiobooks, streaming video, research databases, and more.

You can apply for a library card online at hcpl.net/library-cards or visit any HCPL branch in person with a valid photo ID and proof of address. Youth under 18 will need a parent or guardian’s signature. Get your card today and unlock a world of learning, creativity, and community connection!

Library Closures in January

Early close Friday, Jan. 16 at 5 PM, closed Jan. 17–19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
