Matari Coffee Brings a Taste of Yemen to Katy With New Location Opening in 2026
A unique and culturally rich coffeehouse experience is brewing in Katy, as Matari Coffee Co. prepares to open its newest location at 21788 Katy Freeway, Suite 400, in the bustling shopping center alongside Tiff’s Treats, Jinya Ramen Bar, and Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill. Renovations will begin in mid-December 2025, with projected completion around mid-February 2026.
The Katy outpost will mark the next chapter for a brand that has quickly gained a following for its deep roots, authentic flavors, and rich heritage. The upcoming 2,000-square-foot location will bring Matari’s elevated coffee experience to the Houston metro area, promising handcrafted beverages, indulgent pastries, and coffee sourced from one of the world’s most historic coffee-growing regions—Bani Matar, Yemen.
A Legacy Brewed in the Mountains of Yemen
Matari Coffee’s story begins in the highlands of Bani Matar, an expansive and fertile coffee-growing region west of Sana’a, Yemen. Known for its high altitudes and traditional farming methods, Bani Matar is celebrated for cultivating some of the finest and most flavorful coffee beans in the world.
The Matari name reflects a family legacy of coffee tradition, honoring generations of Yemeni heritage. Each cup is a continuation of that story—carefully crafted and deeply rooted in culture.

That commitment to authenticity is evident in the café’s offerings. Matari Coffee doesn’t just serve trendy lattes—it offers flavors from the mountains steeped in history. Their signature drinks like Matari Latte, Iced Yemeni Latte, Mofawar (medium roast with cardamom and cream), and Qishr (coffee husks with ginger and cinnamon) reflect the centuries-old Yemeni coffee traditions.
A Modern, Elevated Coffee Experience
Though steeped in tradition, the Katy location promises a modern and upscale ambiance—a hallmark of Matari cafés across the U.S. and Canada. Sleek interiors, artisan pastries, and visually stunning tea pots and beverages make each visit an Instagram-worthy occasion.
Among the menu standouts are Turkish coffee served with cardamom, pistachio frappes, and Adeni chai, a warming blend of black tea, cardamom, nutmeg, and milk. A rotating selection of milk cakes, pistachio cheesecakes, honeycomb desserts, and more will fill the glass display case at the heart of the café.
For those who prefer to bring the experience home, Matari also offers coffee by the bag, including their Matari Blend, Sana’ani Mix, Jubani Mix, and even green coffee beans.

Katy Expansion Driven by Local Investment
According to state permit filings, the Katy location is backed by Raheel Suria, CEO of Verge and Partner at Verge Capital Investments. Suria’s firm is also behind Lumin Fitness Cinco Ranch, an AI-powered gym concept that opened earlier this year and has quickly become a community favorite.
Suria’s investment in Matari Coffee aligns with his broader vision of elevating lifestyle offerings across Katy through innovation, cultural appreciation, and premium experiences.
The new café will replace the former Alternate Reality Escape Rooms, repurposing the space to better serve the area’s growing population and love for boutique coffee concepts.
Part of a Growing National Brand
The Katy location joins a growing list of Matari Coffee storefronts, with existing cafés in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, New York, and Canada, and upcoming locations in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and beyond. Since opening its first location in Michigan in 2022, the brand has grown steadily thanks to its combination of cultural authenticity and elevated customer experience.
