Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant Closes After 25 Years of Serving the FM 529 Community

September 10 2025

For a generation of residents along FM 529 and Jersey Village, Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant was a familiar stop—whether for a quick lunch, a drive-thru dinner, or a casual family night out. Now, after 25 years in business, the family-run restaurant has closed its doors for good.

Located at 13012 FM 529, Houston, TX 77041, Manuel’s announced its closure in a September 5 Facebook post, thanking customers for their loyalty over the years. “After 25 years of serving you, the time has come for us to close and begin our next chapter in retirement,” the post read. “Your support has meant the world to us, and we will carry these memories with us always.”

Led by Jose Avellaneda and his family, Manuel’s served its community with a focus on quick service and affordable Tex-Mex staples. The menu covered the bases—fajitas, enchiladas, chile rellenos, queso flameados, and combo plates that promised full bellies without much fuss. In its earlier years, it built a steady neighborhood following, especially with families and weekday regulars.

For those who grew up in the area or stopped by on the way home from work, there’s a quiet nostalgia that comes with the shuttering of a place that once felt routine. For many, Manuel’s wasn’t a destination—it was a habit. And habits, once gone, tend to leave a space that feels oddly personal.

As northwest Houston continues to grow and new businesses move in, longtime residents often find themselves watching the landscape change in ways both exciting and bittersweet. Manuel’s joins the list of family-run establishments that have called it a day—not with fanfare, but with gratitude.

With no plans announced yet for what’s next at the location, the closure marks the end of a longstanding chapter in the community. For those who stopped by over the years—for a weekday lunch, a drive-thru dinner, or a plate of enchiladas—the sign-off message from Manuel’s says it best: “With much love, Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant.”
