Local Fire Departments Join Forces for Share Your Holidays and Chief Santa's Toy Drive Initiatives

November 13 2024

As the holiday season approaches, local fire departments in the Greater Katy area are teaming up for two heartwarming initiatives aimed at spreading joy and supporting families in need: Share Your Holidays and Chief Santa’s Toy Drive. These annual events are designed to give back to the community, providing food, toys, and much-needed support for local families and children.

Share Your Holidays Food Drive

Now in its 44th year, the Share Your Holidays food drive is a long-standing tradition supporting the Houston Food Bank. This initiative, organized by several local fire departments—including Harris County ESD 48 Fire-EMS, Westlake Volunteer Fire Department, Willowfork Fire Department, and Community Volunteer Fire Department—encourages community members to donate non-perishable food items to benefit local families facing food insecurity during the holiday season.

Residents are urged to drop off non-perishable food items, which will be collected by the fire departments and distributed through the Houston Food Bank to families in need. The drive will conclude on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024, marking the final day to make a food donation.

Chief Santa’s Toy Drive

In addition to the food drive, the fire departments are also partnering with other local agencies for the Chief Santa’s Toy Drive, a campaign aimed at providing toys to children who might otherwise go without gifts this holiday season. This drive ensures that all donated toys directly benefit families within the Greater Katy area, with a special focus on bringing joy to patients at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus.

Participants are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. Some suggestions for suitable donations include:

  • Books and magazines
  • Playing cards and puzzles
  • Video games (board games are less in demand)
  • DVDs
  • Interactive games such as trivia, crossword puzzles, and connect-the-dots, which are particularly appreciated by hospital patients for their portability and engagement.

The toy drive will run through December 8, 2024, and all donations will be collected at the various participating fire stations in the area. By donating, residents can help ensure that local children and families experience the warmth and joy of the holiday season.
