Link Elementary Celebrates 40 Years of Excellence

December 06 2022

Just before Thanksgiving Break, pre-K students at Link Elementary took the stage to perform, while hundreds of people – both current and former students and staff – from the Link community gathered to watch and to celebrate the school’s 40th anniversary.

Those gathered – which included parents, students, teachers, and other staff from throughout the school’s four decades – were there as part of a “Leopard Family Reunion,” to commemorate the school and its 40 years of excellence.

Speaking to the gathered crowd, Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa shared in the joy of the evening.

“It’s so exciting to see all the faces here, from people who helped shape this school 40 years ago to the students and parents who are a part of this thriving campus today,” Dr. Hinojosa said. “Everyone in this room shares one thing: a belief in public education and a dedication to making sure our kids get the best possible education available to them. For 40 years now, Link Elementary has been a part of that.”

Link Elementary, built in 1982, was named for Joan Link, one-time secretary to the Spring ISD Superintendent and the Board of Trustees. Link started as an active volunteer in PTA and booster clubs, and in 1964 she took a full-time position as a secretary in the superintendent’s office, handling all district administration functions. Later, when the duties were divided due to the Spring ISD’s growth, Link became the first secretary to the board of trustees. She retired in 1982, having served for 20 years in the district. That year, she had the newly opened school named in her honor.

Some of her family members were in attendance at the 40th anniversary celebration to help mark the occasion.

Along with remarks from the superintendent, Principal Tangy Stith and Assistant Principal Floralba Reyna gave a short history of the school. In addition to the performance from the school’s pre-K students, the Symphonic Band from Claughton Middle School performed.

“We are so honored to celebrate 40 years of excellence here at Link Elementary,” Principal Stith said. “Though we have much to be proud of over these past four decades, I know that the best is yet to come for Link Elementary, with our students and their families.”
