Lakes on Eldridge Book Club Builds Community Around the Joy of Reading
Tucked inside the Lakes on Eldridge community, a book club is quietly creating space for neighbors to connect—not just through stories on the page, but through shared conversation and camaraderie. The Lakes on Eldridge Book Club, now 18 members strong, has quietly become a cornerstone of neighborhood life, inviting residents to engage in thoughtful literary discussion while forming lasting friendships.
Open to both women and men, the book club meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m., usually in the Flex Room unless the evening's host chooses to welcome the group into their home. The schedule occasionally shifts around holidays, but the sense of continuity remains strong—a comforting rhythm of discussion and discovery for those who attend.
Each October, members nominate and vote on the books they'd like to read in the upcoming year. The ten most popular titles form the club’s reading list, which spans genres and authors to keep discussions diverse and engaging.
“Does everyone always finish each book?” the group’s organizer Celeste Fritz asks. “No, but it’s still fun to come to the meetings because the discussion may encourage you to finish it.” The meetings are just as much about the social exchange as they are about the plotlines—something that’s made the group a popular neighborhood fixture.

In a time when digital communication often replaces face-to-face interaction, the Lakes on Eldridge Book Club offers something refreshingly different: real-time, in-person dialogue about ideas, stories, and life. "We have a very active social exchange,” Fritz notes, highlighting the value of these monthly gatherings beyond the books themselves.
From literary newcomers to longtime readers, the club welcomes all who are curious. “So, check us out sometime!” Fritz encourages. “You may find you'd like to join us.”
