Klein Collins High School Plans $29 Million Auditorium Renovation and Traffic Safety Improvements in Spring
Students and families at Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas, could see significant campus improvements in the coming years, with a planned $29 million renovation that includes an upgraded auditorium, a new black box theater and improvements to traffic circulation around the school.
The project, located at 20811 Ella Boulevard in Harris County, is part of Klein Independent School District's voter-approved 2022 Bond Program. A new state filing dated October 9, 2026, outlines the planned improvements, with construction scheduled to begin May 3, 2027, and conclude August 31, 2028.
For Klein Collins families, the project addresses two important parts of campus life: the spaces where students perform, rehearse and participate in fine arts programs, and the traffic patterns that affect daily arrival and dismissal.
What Is Included in the Klein Collins Auditorium Renovation?
According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing, the Klein Collins Auditorium and Traffic Flow Safety Project includes interior renovations to the school's performing arts area, raising the auditorium's flyloft roof, adding a black box theater and constructing a new paved drive loop.
The auditorium improvements could benefit students involved in theater, choir, band and other performing arts activities. Raising the flyloft roof would allow additional space above the stage for theatrical scenery and production equipment, while the new black box theater would provide a flexible setting for smaller performances, rehearsals and student productions.
The project also includes a new paved drive loop intended to address traffic flow and safety around Klein Collins High School. While Klein ISD has identified traffic safety as part of the project, specific details about the drive loop's design and potential changes to student pickup, drop-off and campus access have not yet been made public.
How the Project Fits Into Klein ISD's 2022 Bond Program
The improvements are part of Klein ISD's $895.35 million 2022 Bond Program, approved by voters on May 7, 2022, to fund districtwide investments in school safety, aging facilities, educational spaces and infrastructure.
The Klein Collins project has been moving through the district's planning process. The November 10, 2025, Klein ISD Board of Trustees agenda included consideration of project initiation, while the June 8, 2026, board agenda included consideration of a construction manager at risk. Both items appeared under the district's 2022 Bond Program, although the available agenda records do not independently confirm the outcomes of those votes.
The October 9 TDLR registration provides the latest project details, including the estimated $29 million cost and anticipated construction schedule.
When Will Construction Begin at Klein Collins High School?
Construction is currently scheduled to begin May 3, 2027, with completion anticipated August 31, 2028, according to the state filing. These dates remain estimates and may change as planning and construction progress.
Because the work will take place on an active high school campus, families may have questions about possible impacts on performances, rehearsals, school events and daily traffic. Klein ISD has not yet released a detailed construction phasing schedule or announced whether any activities will need to be temporarily relocated.
The filing also lists 759,800 square feet for the registered project, although it does not specify how much of that area will be directly affected by construction.
What the Improvements Mean for Klein Collins Families
For students involved in fine arts, the planned renovations could mean better spaces for rehearsals, concerts and theatrical productions. For parents navigating daily pickup and drop-off, the traffic improvements may eventually make getting in and out of campus easier, depending on the final design.
The project also represents a substantial investment in an existing school serving families throughout Spring, Klein and surrounding northwest Harris County neighborhoods.
As the planned spring 2027 construction start approaches, additional details about the auditorium design, new theater and campus traffic changes are expected to become clearer.
