Katy YMCA's 21st Annual Turkey Dash Draws Over 4,500 Participants
The 21st Annual Katy YMCA Turkey Dash, presented by Houston Methodist West Hospital, saw tremendous success with an impressive turnout of over 4,500 participants on Thanksgiving Day across our four live events: 10K, 5K, 1 Mile Walk/Run, and 1 mile Kids’ Run.
Participants were treated to delightful weather, post-race vendor booths, and the opportunity to create cherished memories while supporting the YMCA mission. The funds generated from the Katy YMCA Turkey Dash play a crucial role in bolstering the Katy YMCA Annual Campaign, ensuring the funds remain within the Katy community to fortify its fabric, making YMCA programs and services accessible to all.
This year’s event was instrumental in raising $250,000 for the Katy YMCA’s scholarship fund, enabling the provision of memberships and programs for individuals of all ages. Whether it's a child learning to swim or a senior adult seeking social engagement, the YMCA caters to diverse needs.
According to Katlynn Balson, Director of Operations of the Katy Area YMCAs, "The Katy YMCA Turkey Dash is a special event where all ages and abilities gather together to support the Katy Community. Families have made this event their annual tradition, and we are honored they participate year after year. Our event's success is indebted to the unwavering support of our local community, committed volunteers, and local partnerships/businesses."
Balson further adds, "Hearing the stories from participants, from first-year participants to veteran 21-year-long participants, that this is their favorite race every year is very special, and we are honored they choose to support the YMCA year after year. We wouldn’t be able to have such a great impact in Katy without the support of the community at this event."
