Nordstrom Rack Planned for Former Bed Bath & Beyond Space at Shoppes at ParkWest in Katy
Katy-area shoppers could soon have a new place to hunt for designer brands, everyday clothing, shoes and home merchandise at discounted prices.
A recent construction filing identifies Nordstrom Rack as the planned tenant for a 37,992-square-foot space at 24600 Katy Freeway, Suite 100, inside the Shoppes at ParkWest. The store would occupy the former Bed Bath & Beyond location in the same retail area as DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse and Dick’s House of Sport.
For families and shoppers in Katy, Fulshear, Cinco Ranch and surrounding West Houston communities, the project would add another nationally known retailer to one of the area’s busiest shopping corridors. It would also return a large, previously occupied retail space to active use rather than requiring new construction elsewhere.
Renovation Work Scheduled for 2027
According to project information provided for the development, renovation work is scheduled to begin Jan. 14, 2027, with an estimated completion date of Aug. 12, 2027.
The privately funded project carries an estimated construction cost of $250,000. Its listed scope includes core-and-shell improvements and construction of a demising wall for a future tenant within the nearly 38,000-square-foot space.
A construction completion date does not necessarily represent a store’s opening date, and Nordstrom Rack had not publicly announced a Katy opening schedule as of July 31, 2026. Retail openings may follow weeks or months after construction as companies complete interior installations, hiring, inventory deliveries, inspections and employee training.
Still, the filing offers an early look at what may be next for the former Bed Bath & Beyond property and signals continued retailer interest in the Katy Freeway corridor.
Why Nordstrom Rack Could Draw Regional Shoppers
Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, offering merchandise from established, contemporary and designer labels at lower prices than shoppers would typically find at full-line department stores.
The retailer sells women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, shoes, handbags, accessories, jewelry, beauty products, luggage and home goods. Nordstrom Rack says customers can find savings of up to 70% on merchandise sold online and in stores.
That combination of recognizable brands and changing inventory helps distinguish Nordstrom Rack from a traditional department store. Rather than carrying the same assortment throughout a season, off-price stores often depend on a rotating mix of markdowns, closeouts, special purchases and merchandise connected to the broader Nordstrom business.
The result is a more discovery-based shopping experience. Customers may visit for a specific pair of shoes or work outfit, but the available brands, sizes and styles can change frequently.
At the Katy location, that model would complement neighboring stores such as DSW, which specializes in footwear, and Dick’s House of Sport, a larger experiential sporting goods concept.
From a Seattle Basement to a National Retail Brand
Nordstrom Rack traces its history to 1973, when the first Rack opened in the basement of a Nordstrom store in downtown Seattle as a place to sell clearance merchandise.
The concept eventually developed into a separate national chain and became an important way for Nordstrom to reach shoppers looking for recognizable fashion brands at more accessible prices. Today, its online and in-store assortment includes clothing, shoes, beauty, accessories and home products from hundreds of labels.
The brand’s continued store expansion also comes during a challenging period for traditional department stores, many of which have reduced their physical footprints. Off-price retailers have generally remained attractive to shoppers seeking both value and the experience of finding an unexpected deal.
Nordstrom Rack has continued adding stores in growing metropolitan areas, including multiple Texas markets. Its current store directory lists locations across the United States, while recent expansion plans have included additional stores in communities such as McAllen, Fort Worth and New Braunfels. In the Greater Houston area, there are approximately five locations including Willowbrook Mall, the Spring Branch area near Memorial City Mall, and the Center at Post Oak in the Galleria area.
A New Chapter for a Familiar Katy Retail Space
The planned Nordstrom Rack would fill a storefront left behind by Bed Bath & Beyond, whose former big-box locations have been repurposed by a variety of retailers following the home-goods chain’s bankruptcy and widespread store closures in 2023.
For Katy residents, the reuse of the building may be as notable as the name going on it. Large vacant retail spaces can be difficult to refill because relatively few companies need tens of thousands of square feet. Landing another major tenant can help maintain customer traffic for surrounding restaurants, stores and service businesses.
The Shoppes at ParkWest sits near the northeast corner of Interstate 10 and Katy Fort Bend Road, placing it within reach of established Katy neighborhoods as well as fast-growing residential areas west of Houston. The shopping center is already home to a mix of national retailers and occupies a highly visible position along the Katy Freeway.
For nearby homeowners and families, the addition would mean another shopping option closer to home. For the larger retail center, it could generate repeat traffic from customers drawn by Nordstrom Rack’s mix of fashion, footwear, beauty and household merchandise.
What Happens Next
The project remains in the planning and construction pipeline, and details such as the official opening date, employment opportunities, store hours and grand-opening activities have not yet been released.
If the current schedule moves forward, renovation work would take place from January through August 2027. Nordstrom Rack or the shopping center would typically announce a formal opening date closer to the store’s completion.
