Katy ISD PowerSchool Enrollment Reopens July 24 for the 2026–2027 School Year
For Katy-area families, completing school enrollment is one of the most important steps toward a smoother first day of class. Beginning Friday, July 24, Katy ISD will reopen its PowerSchool Enrollment system for students entering the district for the first time and former Katy ISD students returning after previously withdrawing.
The online registration period gives families an opportunity to submit required information before campuses begin welcoming students for the 2026–2027 school year. It also helps schools confirm enrollment, emergency contacts and student records as staff members prepare classrooms, schedules and services for the year ahead.
Who Needs to Register Through Katy ISD PowerSchool?
New Student Registration is intended for children who have never attended a Katy ISD school, as well as former district students who withdrew and are now returning.
Families can complete the registration process online through Katy ISD’s PowerSchool Enrollment system. The district defines a new student as someone who is attending Katy ISD for the first time or a previous Katy ISD student who needs to re-enroll.
Parents and guardians should gather their documents before beginning the application. Required enrollment records include:
- Proof of residence
- The student’s official birth certificate
- The student’s Social Security card
- A government-issued photo ID for the parent or guardian
- The student’s immunization records
- The student’s most recent report card or transcript
Students entering prekindergarten, kindergarten or first grade must also meet Texas age eligibility requirements.
Preparing clear, current copies of those documents ahead of time can help families avoid delays and make the Katy ISD online registration process easier to complete.
Returning Katy ISD Families Will Receive Enrollment Update Emails
Students who were enrolled in Katy ISD at the end of the previous school year do not need to complete New Student Registration.
Instead, returning families will be invited to complete the Annual Student Enrollment Update. Katy ISD plans to begin sending scheduled emails during the week of July 27 with instructions for verifying student information, emergency contacts and other annual records.
Families should watch the email account associated with their student’s district records and complete the update promptly. Accurate contact information is especially important because it helps schools reach parents or guardians during emergencies and communicate transportation, campus and back-to-school information.
New High School Enrollment Option Begins in Fall 2026
Katy ISD is also expanding its enrollment opportunities for the coming school year through High School Limited Open Enrollment.
Under the new transfer program, eligible high school students who live outside Katy ISD may apply to attend a designated Katy ISD high school connected to their Extended Attendance Zone. Rather than choosing from every high school in the district, applicants will select from approved campuses associated with their home address and current school district.
Admission is subject to eligibility requirements and available space at participating campuses. Katy ISD has said the program is intended to give more students access to its academic programs, career and technical education pathways, fine arts, athletics and other high school opportunities.
For families in neighboring communities, the program creates a new path into Katy ISD while allowing the district to manage enrollment and campus capacity.
Legacy Virtual High School Offers a Statewide Online Option
Texas families looking for a flexible high school program may also apply to Legacy Virtual High School, Katy ISD’s new statewide virtual campus.
Launching in fall 2026, Legacy Virtual High School offers full-time and supplemental online learning for students in Katy ISD and elsewhere in Texas. The program includes certified Katy ISD teachers, academic counseling, flexible schedules and coursework designed to support college, career and graduation goals.
The virtual high school may be a practical option for students who are homeschooled, balancing athletics or performing arts, managing medical or personal needs, or learning more successfully in a structured online environment. Eligible full-time Texas students may qualify for tuition-free enrollment, while supplemental and other course options may be fee-based.

Completing enrollment early does more than secure a student’s place in the district. Updated registration information helps Katy ISD campuses prepare class schedules, staffing, transportation planning and student support before school begins.
It can also give families more time to resolve missing records, residency questions or technical problems without the pressure of a rapidly approaching first day.
