Fort Bend County Libraries Celebrates Global Cultures with Free Multicultural Festival and Month-Long Events Across Fort Bend County
One of Fort Bend County's greatest strengths is its remarkable cultural diversity, and this July, Fort Bend County Libraries is inviting residents to experience that diversity firsthand through a month-long celebration culminating in the Fort Bend County Libraries Multicultural Festival on Saturday, July 25, at George Memorial Library in Richmond.
Designed to bring people of all ages together, the free festival showcases the traditions, art, music, food, and stories that reflect the many cultures represented throughout Fort Bend County. Alongside the signature event, Fort Bend County Libraries will host multicultural programs at library branches across the county throughout July, offering residents even more opportunities to learn about cultures from around the world close to home.
A Community Celebration of Culture, Learning and Connection
The Fort Bend County Libraries Multicultural Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at George Memorial Library, located at 1001 Golfview Drive in Richmond.
Prepared by Fort Bend County Libraries' Outreach, Partnership & Program Department in collaboration with George Memorial Library, the festival combines live performances, interactive workshops, cultural exhibits, educational activities and international cuisine into a single community event that welcomes everyone. Admission is free.
Visitors can sample foods from local vendors in the festival's Food Hall, enjoy food trucks outside, browse community exhibits and participate in activities highlighting customs and traditions from cultures represented throughout Fort Bend County.
Art, History and Cultural Exhibits
Among the featured attractions is an exhibit by internationally acclaimed Houston muralist Betirri, whose artwork explores the intersection of sports, culture and community. Visitors can view works inspired by Houston, the 2026 FIFA World Cup and cultures from around the globe, including a replica of Betirri's FIFA World Cup mural.
"Just like those iconic painters in the past captured the spirit of their times, I'm here to capture the essence of football — a game that's more than just sport; it's a universal language of joy and unity," said Betirri.
Betirri will also discuss his artistic journey, his recent FIFA World Cup collaboration and the cultural influences behind his work during a special presentation at the festival.
"Through my art, I want to capture the magic of football — not just the players on the field, but the energy, the colors, and the spirit of the game. Each painting is a window into the exhilaration and camaraderie that football brings to our lives—a reminder of the timeless joy of the beautiful game," he said.
The festival will also feature "Basket Weaving: Texas Style," showcasing the work of artist, author and motivational speaker Elma L. Green, whose distinctive weaving technique uses yarn in place of traditional sweetgrass while honoring the basket-weaving traditions of the Gullah Geechee people.
"History is the foundation for our future. The stronger the foundation, the sturdier the building. These baskets reflect the talent, perseverance, and history of people who had so little but left so much," said Green. "It is a history that needs to be learned, shared, and respected."
Additional exhibits include the Around the World Booths, where Expose Youth Excellence Program interns will guide families through crafts, trivia and games inspired by countries around the world, and a Community Resource Fair featuring organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Richmond, Children's Museum Houston, Daya Houston and The Inner Mind.
Interactive Workshops for Every Age
The day's schedule includes hands-on learning experiences that encourage visitors to explore new cultures and interests.
Genealogy enthusiasts can attend "Find Your Roots: A Beginner's Guide to Family History," where George Memorial Library's genealogy staff will introduce research tools including Ancestry.com, FamilySearch databases and historical library resources.
Families can also participate in Soccer Fundamentals with Midas Football Academy, where young participants will practice soccer skills while learning lessons about leadership, teamwork, resilience and confidence through youth mentorship.
Other workshops include:
-
Henna Art with Henna Love Studio, where participants will create their own organic henna paste while learning about the history and traditions behind the art form.
-
Mahjong 101 with The Mahj Society, introducing the history, culture and gameplay of one of the world's most enduring games.
Music, Fashion and Global Traditions
The afternoon continues with a Multicultural Fashion Show highlighting traditional clothing from countries and cultures around the world, followed by
"Around the World with Houston Brass Quintet," an interactive musical performance exploring music from Latin America, India, Africa, the British Isles, France and the United States while sharing the cultural traditions behind each region's distinctive sound.
