Katy Area Featured Park: Katy City Park

January 24 2024

Katy City Park, located in the heart of Katy at 5850 Franz Road, has been recognized at the state level for its inclusivity, rich amenities and a charming nod to Katy's unique heritage.

This sports-lover paradise boasts a host of facilities, including lighted baseball and softball fields, a soccer/multipurpose field, and a covered three-court basketball pavilion. Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy a game or two at the six ADA accessible courts. With something for everyone, this park is open for athletic field rentals every day from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

However, Katy City Park isn't all about sports. At 5611 Gardenia Lane within the park, you'll find the Katy Play Station and Outdoor Pavilion, amenities built on inclusivity and innovation. This playground, the largest in the state, was specifically designed for multiple-impaired and profoundly deaf children. Sprawling over 13,000 square feet, this playground is a one-of-a-kind tribute to Katy’s namesake, the MKT Rail line.

Inclusivity is prioritized at Katy City Park. The Katy Play Station ensures that all kids, regardless of their abilities, have an opportunity to join in on the fun. Its appeal extends beyond the community, quickly becoming a renowned destination for family-focused recreation. This unique play facility has even caught the attention of Today’s Playground Magazine, earning various accolades for its thoughtful design and significant contribution to the community.

Just this week, City of Katy officials announced the completion of the Katy Arboretum Playground! Located next to Katy City Park at 2046 Katy City Park Road, this playground features multiple slides, various climbing activities, and creative spaces, this playground is a haven for children to explore and unleash their creativity. The shade structure covering the entire playground offers protection from the sun so kids can play even on the sunniest days. The Arboretum also features a short walking path, with information placards provided by Keep Katy Beautiful that shares information about each unique tree species.

Accompanying the unique play station is an equally equipped outdoor pavilion, complete with permanent picnic tables and benches. This cosy space can accommodate around 50 people and is also available for rental. Whether you're a sports enthusiast, a parent of an active child, or simply on the lookout for a relaxing spot to unwind, Katy City Park is your go-to destination for leisure and recreation.
