Johnson Development Names Homebuilders for New Fort Bend County Community, The George
Johnson Development has officially announced the first eight homebuilders selected for The George, its newly planned residential community in Fort Bend County.
Covering 1,500 acres near FM 2977 and Koeblen Road, The George is set to bring more than 4,000 homes to the area over time. The initial group of builders will offer designs for over 300 homesites in the first phase of development. The mix includes a range of lot sizes and home styles:
- Chesmar Homes and Newmark Homes for 40-foot homesites
- Perry Homes and Empire Homes for 45-foot lots
- David Weekley Homes and Westin Homes for 50-foot sites
- Highland Homes and J. Patrick Homes for 60-foot homesites
According to Derek Goff, Vice President and General Manager of The George, the selection was based on existing partnerships and each builder’s experience in residential construction.

“We’re thrilled to unveil this outstanding line-up of builders,” Goff said. “Each brings a proven track record of excellence in home design, quality construction and customer service — and have long-standing relationships with Johnson Development.”
Builders are expected to receive their homesites in early 2026, with model homes and pre-sales expected to follow in the spring. Home prices have not yet been released, but eight model homes are currently scheduled for completion next year, offering a preview of what buyers can expect in terms of design and variety.
Early Plans for Amenities and Growth
Phase one of The George will also include an amenity center that’s currently in the planning stages. Johnson Development officials say the goal is to create a space for community gathering and recreational use.
The full buildout of the development includes retail areas and sites reserved for future schools. The community falls within the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District and is currently zoned to Thomas Elementary, Steenbergen Middle School, Wright Junior High, and Randle High School.

A Community with Historical Roots
The George is being developed on land acquired from The George Foundation, a longstanding organization with ties to the region’s agricultural and philanthropic history. The neighboring George Ranch — a historic site dating back to the 1820s — is not part of the development and will continue to serve as an educational venue for local students and visitors.
The new community takes its name from the George family and the nearby ranch. “We want The George to be a place where families can be inspired to shape their own lasting legacies,” Goff said.
Johnson Development’s Footprint in Fort Bend County
The George becomes the ninth Johnson Development community in Fort Bend County. The company has developed nearly 26,000 acres in the county, including Sienna, one of the region’s most well-known and expansive master-planned communities.
As construction progresses and more details emerge, residents and prospective buyers can expect additional announcements on pricing, timelines, and community features in the months ahead.
