Jason’s Deli Plans New Tomball Location Along Tomball Parkway

Tomball / Magnolia
September 25 2026

For Tomball residents watching the steady expansion of restaurants, retail and services along Tomball Parkway, another familiar name appears to be joining the mix. Construction documents call for an approximately $800,000 tenant improvement project that would transform 4,200 square feet at 28220 Tomball Parkway, Suite A-1 into a quick-service Jason’s Deli restaurant.

The project is scheduled to begin Jan. 4, 2027, with an anticipated construction completion date of June 28, 2027, according to the filing. Those dates represent the proposed construction schedule and should not be considered a confirmed restaurant opening date.

The address is part of Tomball Mercantile, a new retail development at 28220 Tomball Parkway. A separate state filing for the development describes a 13,200-square-foot retail shell and associated site work at the property.

A Second Jason’s Deli Presence Along Tomball Parkway

The planned restaurant would expand Jason’s Deli’s presence in the Tomball area rather than introduce the brand to the community for the first time.

Jason’s Deli already operates a Tomball Parkway location at 22424 Tomball Parkway, commonly identified by the company as its Spring Cypress-Tomball location. The restaurant remains active in the community, including through the company’s fundraising and nonprofit support programs.

The new address at 28220 Tomball Parkway would place another Jason’s Deli several miles farther north along the SH 249 corridor, closer to Tomball’s expanding commercial center.

For residents, that could eventually mean another nearby option for quick lunches, family meals, catering and takeout as commercial development continues moving north along Tomball Parkway.

A Texas Restaurant Story That Started in Beaumont

Jason’s Deli has particularly deep roots in Texas.

Founder Joe Tortorice Jr. opened the first Jason’s Deli in Beaumont on Nov. 30, 1976. The original restaurant had only about 40 seats and 12 menu items, with Tortorice and members of his family helping operate the business while it found its footing.

From that small Beaumont deli, the company grew into a national restaurant chain while remaining family owned and headquartered in Texas. Jason’s Deli currently reports 239 restaurants across 27 states.

That history gives the planned Tomball restaurant a distinctly Texas connection. What is now a national deli chain began less than two hours east of the Houston area and built much of its early growth across Texas before expanding farther around the country.

What Is on the Jason’s Deli Menu?

For diners who know the brand, Jason’s Deli has long occupied a space somewhere between a traditional neighborhood deli and a fast-casual restaurant.

Its menu includes specialty sandwiches and wraps, soups, salads, muffalettas, baked potatoes, pastas, build-your-own sandwiches, children’s meals, desserts and vegetarian and gluten-sensitive selections. Current best sellers include the California Club, Club Royale, Beefeater, Plain Jane Potato, Chicken Alfredo and build-your-own salads.

The muffaletta has an especially long history with the company. In the late 1970s, Tortorice traveled to New Orleans looking for authentic muffaletta bread and ultimately worked with Leidenheimer Baking Co. to get the bread transported from New Orleans to Beaumont. The bakery remains a Jason’s Deli supplier decades later.

Jason’s Deli has also become known for its salad offerings and broad menu flexibility, giving groups and families options ranging from traditional deli sandwiches and Texas chili to vegetarian meals and gluten-sensitive choices.

One small tradition has also developed a loyal following: complimentary soft-serve for dine-in customers. Jason’s Deli says its vanilla soft-serve has been made with natural ingredients since 2016.

What Makes Jason’s Deli Different?

Part of the company’s identity has been built around ingredient changes made over several decades.

Jason’s Deli says it eliminated artificial trans fats from its food in 2005. By 2008, the company had removed artificial MSG and, with limited fountain-drink exceptions, high-fructose corn syrup from its food. It later removed artificial colors and artificial flavors.

Those changes became a significant part of the company’s branding as consumer interest grew around ingredient transparency and dining options for different dietary preferences.

The company has continued updating the restaurant itself, too. In 2025, Jason’s Deli introduced a redesigned brand identity and restaurant prototype as part of a broader modernization effort while emphasizing that the company remained family owned.

Jason’s Deli Already Has Deep Houston-Area Roots

The Tomball project would also join an established network of Jason’s Deli restaurants throughout Greater Houston.

Within Houston, the company lists restaurants along FM 1960, Highway 6 in Copperfield, Memorial Drive, the East Freeway, Jones Road, South Shepherd Drive, Westheimer Road, Bellaire Boulevard and the Northwest Freeway, among other locations.

Nearby communities also have Jason’s Deli restaurants. The company operates locations in Spring at 19507 Interstate 45 North and 6735 Grand Parkway West, as well as a Magnolia location at 32818 FM 2978.

Combined with the existing restaurant at 22424 Tomball Parkway, the planned Tomball Mercantile location would further strengthen the brand’s presence across northwest Harris County and the communities surrounding Tomball.

What Happens Next for the New Tomball Jason’s Deli?

The construction filing lists work on the 4,200-square-foot restaurant as scheduled from Jan. 4 through June 28, 2027, with an estimated construction cost of $800,000.

As with other early-stage commercial projects, construction schedules can change, and a completion date for tenant improvements does not necessarily correspond with a restaurant’s grand opening. Hiring, inspections, equipment installation, training and other preparations can occur after construction is substantially complete.

No official opening date for the new Tomball Jason’s Deli has been announced.

Still, the filing gives Tomball residents an early look at another restaurant preparing to join a part of the city that continues to attract new retail and dining investment.

For a company approaching more than five decades since its first tiny Beaumont deli opened its doors, the Tomball project represents another step in a Texas growth story that has expanded well beyond its Southeast Texas beginnings while remaining recognizable to generations of diners.

My Neighborhood News will continue following the Jason’s Deli Tomball project and other new restaurants and businesses coming to the Tomball area as additional opening details become available.
