A little friendly competition, some miniature race cars and an opportunity to recognize those who serve will come together in Houston this November as Scale Auto Racing hosts the America 250 Veterans Day Slot Car Championship on Saturday, November 14, 2026. The event invites families, racing enthusiasts and first-time competitors to spend the day racing while honoring military veterans and first responders.

Held at Scale Auto Racing in northwest Houston, the championship is designed to welcome participants of all experience levels, including those who have never tried slot car racing. With separate races for complete novices, intermediate racers and advanced competitors, families can participate without worrying about keeping up with seasoned racers.

The event also ties into America 250, the nationwide commemoration of the United States' 250th anniversary in 2026, adding a patriotic theme to a day of racing and community appreciation.

What Is Slot Car Racing? Houston Event Welcomes Beginners and Experienced Racers

For those unfamiliar with the hobby, slot car racing involves miniature motorized cars that travel along specially designed tracks. Drivers control their cars' speed using handheld controllers, testing their timing and skill as they navigate curves and straightaways.

While the cars may be small, the competition can be surprisingly exciting, especially when racers are closely matched.

The November 14 championship at Scale Auto Racing will feature three competition levels:

  • Complete Novices: Designed for first-time racers with no previous slot car racing experience.

  • Intermediate: For participants who have some racing experience and want to test their skills.

  • Advanced: For experienced racers ready for a more competitive challenge.

Club-supplied cars will be available, meaning participants do not need to own a slot car to enter. Cash prizes and trophies will also be awarded as part of the championship.

For parents looking for family-friendly activities in Houston, the event offers an opportunity for children and adults to discover a hobby that combines hand-eye coordination, friendly competition and a little old-fashioned fun.

Veterans and First Responders Receive Discounted Race Entry

In recognition of Veterans Day, which falls on Wednesday, November 11, the championship will honor military veterans and first responders with discounted registration fees.

Online race entry costs $10 for regular participants, while veterans and first responders can register online for $5.

For those registering on race day, the cost increases to $15 for regular participants and $7.50 for veterans and first responders.

Spectators can attend free of charge, making it possible for friends, family members and curious visitors to stop by, watch the races and cheer on their favorite competitors without purchasing an entry.

The event's focus on veterans and first responders also offers a chance for the Houston community to show appreciation for the people who have served in the military and those who help protect local neighborhoods.

A Different Way for Houston Families to Spend Veterans Day Weekend

Houston-area families searching for things to do in November, indoor activities for kids or Veterans Day events near Cypress, Jersey Village and northwest Houston may find the championship worth adding to their calendars.

Unlike racing events that require participants to bring specialized equipment or have previous experience, the championship's beginner division and club-supplied cars make it easier for newcomers to give the hobby a try.

The event also introduces visitors to Scale Auto Racing, a Houston venue dedicated to miniature motorsports, while bringing together people who might otherwise never have crossed paths.

Whether participants are competing for a trophy, trying slot car racing for the first time or simply watching from the sidelines, the November 14 championship offers a way to spend time together while recognizing veterans and first responders.

Those interested in racing are encouraged to register online before the November 13 deadline to take advantage of the lower entry fees. Families who would rather watch can attend as spectators at no cost.
