Honoring Heroes: Support the Bridgeland Veterans Memorial Initiative This Memorial Day
Memorial Day is not just another long weekend; it’s a time to honor our brave men and women who served and sacrificed their lives for our great nation. In the Bridgeland community in Cypress, this spirit of gratitude is being brought to life with a heartfelt project – The Bridgeland Veterans Memorial.
Born from the design of a dedicated Army engineer, veteran, and Bridgeland resident, Walt Bohn, this memorial park is more than just a symbol. It's a place of solace, remembrance, and respect, where the names of Bridgeland veterans will be engraved along with critical details of key wars in U.S. history.
The non-profit corporation, The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc. (TBCSVI), is the pioneer behind this noble initiative. Since its inception in February 2015, the organization has not just focused on building the memorial park but also on providing extensive support to veterans, educating citizens, and creating a strong community of unity and respect.
This Memorial Day, the Bridgeland community came together at the site of the future Veterans Memorial Park. The day was filled with acts of remembrance, with loved ones tying ribbons around trees in the park - each one inscribed with the names of those they are memorializing. Prayers were said, stories were shared, taps were played, and a moment of silence was held in honor of those who have fallen.
The vision for this Memorial Park is ambitious, but the journey is far from over. Each October, TBCSVI hosts an annual fundraiser, the Bridgeland Community Fun Run/Walk for Heroes. A portion of the funds raised from this event goes towards the building of the Veterans Memorial Park. Galas, races, and the generosity of individual donations have also significantly contributed to their fundraising efforts.
On this Memorial Day, let's keep the spirit of service and sacrifice alive by supporting the Bridgeland Veterans Memorial. Your contribution can help ensure that this local symbol of honor and gratitude stands for generations to come, reminding us of the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.
