Hearthstone Resident Donates Girl Scout Cookies to Local Fire Station

May 02 2023

The goal was big, but so was her heart.

Chelsea, a second grade Hearthstone resident and Brownie in Girl Scouts, set out to sell 500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies during this year's cookie season, the largest fundraiser in the world dedicated to girls. Her troop goal was a jaw-dropping 20,000 boxes, so she knew she had to do her part to help her fellow Girl Scouts reach this massive achievement. With a few dozen girls in her troop across all levels, she knew it was possible, particularly with the help of her generous Hearthstone neighbors.

Her wagon loaded down with every flavor available, Chelsea frequently took to the streets during cookie season the old-fashioned way, going door to door and asking Hearthstone residents to support her troop by purchasing delicious Girl Scout cookies from her stash. Many obliged and purchased a stack of boxes, some bought a box or two, and a few could not purchase the cookies due to health concerns.

"I was excited about the challenge of selling so many cookies because I love a challenge. My neighbors are so kind and I like to get exercise by walking with the wagon," said Chelsea.

What many avid Girl Scout cookie lovers may not know is that Girl Scouts offers a special program called Cookies For Heroes, which provides a unique way to support Girl Scouts while also expressing thanks to our local heroes. Customers purchase a number of boxes, which are then distributed to our local heroes like fire fighters, police officers, and other first responders.

Throughout cookie season, her mom, the Brownie leader in her hybrid troop, was under the impression that Chelsea's Cookies For Heroes contributions were to be pulled from her inventory and given back to the troop for distribution after cookie season was over. So, Chelsea dutifully collected her Cookies For Heroes boxes - over three dozen - only to find out that her mom misunderstood the process. But all was not lost, as the head troop leader simply instructed them to donate the cookies directly to local heroes of Chelsea's choice. Naturally, she selected Cy-Fair Fire Department Station No. 9 since she rides past the station on her way to jiujitsu at a local dojo. Plus, this station is zoned to Hearthstone, so giving back to the fire fighters who support her neighborhood was, in her mind, the perfect choice.

On Monday, May 1, she and her little sister loaded up in the car with big smiles on their faces as they eagerly awaited Chelsea's cookie drop off at the station. Chelsea's three year-old sister was often a cookie ambassador throughout this year's cookie season as Chelsea's "Cuteness Key", helping her big sister win the hearts of her customers. As such, she felt that it was only fair that her little sister come along for this fun occasion. Upon arrival, the girls were greeted warmly and were even offered a tour of a fire truck, climbing around inside to examine the equipment.

What was a misunderstanding on her mom's part ended up yielding a special opportunity to personally deliver cookies purchased by her neighbors for her local fire station.

"It felt really good to give back to our fire fighters. They were so nice and I hope they enjoy the cookies. I hope to come back and donate more cookies next year" said Chelsea.
