Grand Lakes Residents Invited to Walk for a World Without Alzheimer’s at 2025 Katy Event
This fall, the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission will come to life in Katy on Saturday, September 27, 2025, as locals gather at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch to participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. It’s more than just a two-mile route—it’s a nationwide call to action for people of all ages and backgrounds to help fight a disease that continues to impact millions of lives across the globe.
For residents of Grand Lakes, this event offers a powerful chance to come together, remember those lost, support those still fighting, and invest in a future free from Alzheimer’s. Whether you're walking in memory of a loved one or simply to show solidarity, forming a neighborhood team or inviting family and friends to join can create a meaningful experience with lasting community impact.
A National Movement With Local Roots
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest fundraiser dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Held annually in over 600 communities, the event has its roots in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®, which began in 1989. Today, that legacy continues through an organized, inclusive event that has inspired millions.
The Alzheimer’s Association—the nonprofit driving this effort—was founded in 1980 by a group of caregivers and researchers determined to change the future of Alzheimer’s disease. Now recognized as the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care and research, the Association provides 24/7 support, educational resources, and advocacy on behalf of the more than 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and the 11 million caregivers who stand beside them.
Alzheimer’s isn’t just a medical condition—it’s a growing national crisis. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. It’s a disease that devastates not just families but entire communities, both emotionally and financially. In 2024 alone, the disease is expected to cost the U.S. over $360 billion.

The Local Walk: Where Compassion Meets Action
This year’s Katy Walk has already seen promising momentum, with 86 participants and 39 teams contributing to 33% of the $215,000 fundraising goal—totaling more than $70,799 raised so far. Event organizers hope to build on that progress with even more neighborhood involvement, especially from communities like Grand Lakes. Imagine the impact that could be made if you and your neighbors rallied together in support of this cause?
Walk Day will begin at 7:30 AM, with an opening ceremony at 8:15 AM followed by the official start at 8:30 AM. Participants will follow a scenic two-mile route through the heart of Cinco Ranch. The event is pet- and family-friendly, with accommodations for children and accessible options for participants of all abilities.
All registered walkers who raise at least $100 by late August will receive an official event T-shirt—a badge of both commitment and camaraderie. But beyond fundraising milestones, the walk is a celebration of shared stories and purpose, punctuated by the Promise Garden Ceremony, where colorful flowers represent participants’ personal connection to the cause.
Learn More, Get Involved
Residents curious about how to take part can attend a free informational meeting on Tuesday, April 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library. Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will learn about forming teams, fundraising strategies, and volunteer opportunities.
