Today is Go Skateboarding Day! In 2004, this observance was created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to promote events in major cities around the world to help make skateboarding more accessible. 

Did you know that one of the largest skateboarding parks in America is located right in your community? Built in August 2014, the North Houston Skate Park was built by the N. Houston Development Corp (formerly the Greater Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority).  This popular event venue attracts both novice and expert skaters not just from around the city, but also from around the world. 

The 78,000 SF park features a world-class, competition-scale Texas-shaped bowl with a full pipe, a 12-foot vertical ramp, a 10-foot-deep bowl, banked walls & speed hips – plus backyard-style pools & 3 flow bowls – beginner, intermediate, & advanced.  A section designed to emulate the street-skating experience has ledges, rails, benches, banks, quarter pipes & stair obstacles, providing fun and creative challenges for skaters of all levels and interests. The park allow skateboards, rollerblades and quad skates only. Helmets are mandatory and admission is FREE.

Along with the multi-level features, the park is home to “High Noon” – a life-size, full pipe bronze sculpture designed by legendary Hall-of-Fame skateboarder Steve Olson. The park also features walking trails, shaded picnic tables, 80" outdoor television, benches, public art and shaded structures with seating and water misters.

Today, the park has special hours for Go Skateboarding Day. It will be open from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Come out for the special Go Skate Day event that evening and enjoy a DJ, food and more!
